Energy: Find the cheapest supplier & earn cashback

I'm a first time buyer, so I'm not switching- I'm just opening a new [electricity only] account. Can I still get cashback for choosing a supplier via MSE?0
-
I wondered about that too - I thought it was just me being silly ...
I was on Gas Guardian 2008 so it looks like I am in for a substantial hike in cost if I stay with npower. No point in switching until the rest get their announcements out.
I'm fed up with npower because I paid out over £900 and only used £750 in fuel over the past year. I've had money back off them every single year for the past 4 years because they won't reduce my monthly payments enough.
I left npower a couple of years ago because I was fed up with their habit of sending random bills for random sums. I received one for over £3,000.00, out of the blue, rang them up, and told them the reading on my meter, and they happily accepted that and I paid my dues of just over £200.00. I can imagine the proverbial 'little old lady' being spooked by random bills, so would not recommend npower to Granny!0 -

You are still placing an order so should still get the cashback. The cashback is for becoming a customer and not for leaving another company.
The best cashbacks in most cases are paid for placing an order via the https://www.topcashback.co.uk website and not through placing a switch on the MSE website.0 -

Their tariffs always seems to rely on large discounts and bonuses only payable once a year when I have looked. This makes it hard to leave them if they put their prices up say 6 months after you have joined them.0 -
Actually I am glad to see that Atlantic Electric and Gas has come up well in the above reviews. I have been with them for many years and athough I get a full month re-payment back each November I had been wondering if I should change to another provider. I am reluctant to change as iIn the past when I change they will increase their fees after a few months so I am pleased I now don't have to bother.0

I see that Scottish Power have now slashed their dual fuel cashback back to £62 (the same as Eon). Luckily I managed to switch when it was still £110 and Topcashback then topped it up by a further 1% to £111.10 :j
So I was with Scottish Power in October on their V4 online tariff and have now been to Eon and back and earned £173.10 cashback on the way and am also now on the cheaper v7 tariff that Scottish Power would have paid me no cashback to switch to from v4 but would have subjected me to the one year lock in with the £50 penalty for leaving for doing so. I can still now leave Scottish Power at any time by paying the £50 penalty but will be £123.10 better off than if I had never gone away and come back......0 -

I don't believe you have to switch to the tariff promoted on the Quidco page to qualify for cashback.
For instance, EON have fixonline v5, which is fixed until March 2011 and has a £30 exit fee, and is the tariff mentioned on the Quidco EON page and is also the only tariff suggested to me when I tried 3 comparison sites.
However, EON also have saveonline, which doesn't appear to be fixed or have an exit fee and if you switch to this via Quidco you should still qualify for the same cashback (£70 for a dual-fuel switch).0 -

EON Save Online is indeed the tariff I switched away from Scottish Power's Online v4 tariff and earned £62 cashback on from https://www.topcashback.co.uk only to then switch back to Scottish Power (without any penalty for leaving EON after only a few weeks) about six weeks later to their v7 Online tariff, earning a further £111.10 from https://www.topcashback.co.uk in the process. There is now a £50 penalty for leaving Scottish Power in the first year but as my net gain in going back to them is £61.10, even if I end up paying the £50 penalty for leaving early, I am in fact free to leave them again at any time for another attractive cashback deal.............0 -
Hi all
What do you think of npower "Go fix" tariff? This one keeps coming out top when I put my annual usage into the comparison sites. I have recently gone back onto the standard tariff for edf after being on price protection till end of 2009 so I am desperate to switch to a less expensive tariff.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.0
