I've just switched for the second time. About a year ago I switched to NPower but on checking again recently they've had about 5 new (cheaper) tarifs since then so switching again to EON will save me. Of course NPower rang to ask why and when I told them they checked their prices and EONs and agreed EON was cheaper but only a little cheaper than NPower's current cheapest tarif.
I pointed out their policy of introducing new cheaper tarifs without offering them to existing customers didn't encourage loyalty and that, with EON, I wouldn't have to stick a year with them to get the discounts and could switch more quickly when newer cheaper tarifs come in.

Npower said they are not allowed to tell customers of newer cheaper tarifs, but will move you if you call them and you won't lose the annual discount. They say EON won't be allowed to either.
So is this true or are they fibbing?

Either way its worth calling your own supplier and asking for their cheapest tarif if you can't be bothered to switch twice a year or more!

The price according to your consumption will be cheaper. Size of instalments you make are up to you and npower to negotiate. But note that £105 of the saving will be as an annual rebate after twelve months and will be forfeit if you do not stick it out for a year.
Thanks for that Kim, most useful. I've just checked when is my discount payment anniversary with npower. I switched to npower and started getting gas and elec from them on 4 August 08. But my discount payment date is not til 2 October 09, so I will have to stay with them 14 months before switching. The discount is worth waiting for - it's £100.

Didnt when i got mine....got free case(1 year ago)
Me too - got the free case a year ago, with nothing extra to pay.
  • Will somebody (perhaps from E.ON) calculate for me please?

I am currently on Energy Online Saver V 12 from E.On

    1. I am presently suitated in the Scottish and Southern area
    2. I get duel fuel from them
    3. I do not have to have duel fuel from my next supplier
    4. I pay via monthly Direct Debit of a) Gas: 30 pcm,
    b) Electricity: 23 pcm
    5. I submit meter readings when my bill is due.

Looking forward to reading what the number crunchers come up with.
Today, my BEST is good enough.

Used Energyhelpline.com to switch from Southern Electric to Scottish Power. I had been with SP for 3 years and was reasonably happy with them however thought they were a tiny bit too expensive - as the comparisons sites seemed to show.
After 3 months SP have increased my direct debit by 30% (62 to GBP99!)

Either the comparator had the wrong rates for SP or SP are "lowballing" in order to acquire more customers. If I can't resolve it I will just return to SE in 9 months.

Not much difference between Scottish Power and other suppliers. If your debit has increased by 33% then your useage has increased, payment was previously too low, or SP's computer is trying it on. Whichever is the answer, the problem is unlikely a more expensive tariff. (Unless you are on an older tariff. Have you updated your SP tariff?)

If you purchase online you have 14 days to cancel. I did this with British Gas when I found a cheaper deal.
