Hi,
We dual fuel through Atlantic Elec and Gas and get a month's payment refunded annually as a 'bonus'. Does anyone know if this sort of repayment is included when calcualting 'best buys?' Understandably, perhaps, loathe to give this up as it is, effectively, 12 for the price of 11... Any help will be appreciated. Sheepieju0 -

This discount often is not included in the calculated figure the comparison sites come up with ... but most do mention it if you look at the details of the tariff. It only applies to pay monthly by DD customers.
I'm not sure why they don't include it. It could be because:
(a) they calculate the cost based on 12 months. You don't get the discount until the 13th month
or
(b) it's not actually a discount, but rather a partial refund back to your bank account. You are refunded one month's payment, but they still collect every month (makes you wonder why they don't just not collect in the 13th month and so on every year?) Hence the comparison site tells you what you actually have to pay the supplier.
If you read the details of the tariff on the comparison site, it should say whether the refund is included or not in their calculated figure"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -

I also have Atlantic Elec and Gas. My theory is that it is not in the comparison sites calculations as they want you to change suppliers so they can get the commission.0 -

Don't be caught out.
I have just switched after reading Mr Lewis's latest newsletter. In it he mentioned getting a free case of wine with Uswitch.
What it didn't say was what you get is a £40 voucher, but have to chose a case of wine from Virgin wines that has a value of at least £79.99. So it isn't a free case of wine at all. More like a case of sour grapes if you ask me.
So I got all the way through, switched my supplier, and then discovered that I would have to spend another £39.99 plus delivery in order to get my "free" case of wine.
Beware, there is no such thing as a free case.0 -
Can anyone recommend who is the cheapest on a social tarrif in the Norweb area?
Currently on British Gas Essentials for Gas but they will not add electricity and can not seem to give a good enough answer as to why when you ask them.
Thanks,

Dear Moneysavers
I tried using Energyhelpline to identify if I would make a saving by changing tariffs. According to the site, having entered my usage, it estimated that my current bill was £1500 a year, yet it is actually more like £1000 a year. I have the Dual fuel Npower Sign Online 10 deal at present. Moreover, when I checked the site's understanding of my current tariffs it gave higher figures across the board than are shown on my bill.
I am quite confused by this and am struggling to work out if I can make a saving by changing since the information from that site seems to be completely wrong.
Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks
