I wonder how Money Supermarket work out who to give £30 cashback to ? Presumably it is on your e-mail address. In which case I can use a different one next time!

They base it on your address. NOT your email address :)

  • Some Scottish Power customer's may want to consider transferring to another provider, as they're not reducing all their products! Was wondering why they hadn't told me what my new prices where gonna be and it's because apparently I'm already on a "good deal" and I may still be paying less than others. How come they're happy to increase my prices but not reduce them? The fact that other's are on different rates isn't the issue - we ALL are! Why can't I benefit from these so called reductions like everyone else?. I'm already on a fixed mortgage and not benefitting from the low B of E rate and now this! Everything goes up, my salary stays the same (no pay rise this year!) and we're expected to just carry on as normal!

Sounds about right - all the G&E companies do this. As an aside, Scottish Power have announced they will be paying interest on credit balances over £133 of around 3%. About bl**dy time! No-one else does this though.

I have lost complete trust in these comparison sites.

has anyone ever used one and it said they already have the cheapest product?

It currently tells me to goto british gas (on manual check their unit prices are higher than what I pay).

However if I put british gas as my current supplier it tells me to go back to atlantic.

This might be a silly question, but I am currently paying monthly direct debits at £46 and £47 for electrictiy and gas respectively. I have not being paying attention to the meter readings thus far. Should I find that their estiamte is much more than I am actually on, is it worth holding back switching until they reduce my monthly DD? The reason I ask this is because I dont want to lose my "credit", i.e. overpaid money from me.

If you have paid for more at a higher rate than you have actually had, you would be better doing a meter reading now to give them your actual usage so you benefit from the reduced rate on your actual usage. I did both meter readings on 01/04 so they didn't estimate how many units were on the old rate and the new rate. I 'may' have underestimated the old (higher) rate slightly! :rotfl:

I am with Ebico for gas 3.59 kwh (approx 7500kwh per year) and Brit Gas Essentials for electricity 14.193 & 9.348 kwh (3075kwh per year), quarterly online billing. I am looking for the cheapest but cant use the comparison websites because they dont compare the essentials tariff. I would like to know who is the cheapest. Can anyone tell me what is the quickest way to work out the comparisons? I am sure I saw it somewhere but cant find it.

Appologies if someoe has already asked this, but what's to stop people continuely changing provider and bagging £30 for each change? (i.e. several times per year)

I know some providers are now requesting 12 month contracts and there is the hassle that is involved with continuely changing, but other than that are there any other issues? How long is the average amount of time for the providers to pay up the £30?

If you changed every 2 months, that's £180 per year, which could be a significant reduction for a low user, in my case a 40% reduction on my bill.

Any info from people in the know (as opposed to people having a guess) would be much appreciated.
