Energy: Find the cheapest supplier & earn cashback

I've been looking into any potential savings I can make on my electricity bill and according to all the comparison sites I could save about £250 per year by switching from my current provider (Atlantic Electric & Gas) to EDF Energy Online 6 tariff (mainly due to the huge difference in unit cost, over 13p per unit with Atlantic and just over 8p per unit with EDF Energy!). I'm tempted to go through moneysupermarket.com via Quidco (£20 cashback) but just wanted to check before I do go ahead that the comparison is a fair one and will reflect any recent price cuts announced by both suppliers? The moneysupermarket site does list the price cuts with the majority showing an effective date of the end of this month but does that mean the cuts haven't been included in the quoted figures yet? To be honest I don't think it will make any difference as EDF have announced a 9% cut in Electricity prices from the end of March as have Atlantic E&G I believe so any saving indicated now should be the same after the end of March anyway shouldn't it?0

I also have Atlantic electric and gas and used Atlantics own comparison site.
On a £50 per month payment for each utility they claimed they would be £44 more expensive on Electric and £24 more using gas then using EDF. I then tried npower and again I would saved £45 and £25. There was nothing on their site about reducing prices0 -
looked on their website and both gas and electricity are cheaper.
are they good? and reliable?
thanks for that
I have found them both good and reliable.
They do exactly what they claim - every unit costs the same.
The prices on their website are now the reduced prices effective 30 March 2009
They have no separate standing charges or the 2 tier charging system that other suppliers use (and which leads to the sculpting of gas tariffs with nPower)
There are no hidden costs, but no confusing discounts either. That makes it easy to calculate costs with them.
They use SSE as their licenced supply partner, and SSE deal with the majority of customer service issues including billing.
SSE are renowned as being one of the best of the big six for providing customer service support - but I wouldn't claim they were perfect. However, ebico do publish a freephone number rather than the 0845 number SSE give their customers so if you do need to call them, you won't even pay for the phone call.
Ebico also have a couple of their own customer service employees who are based at their head office good for when all else fails. One of which, Lauren, is now a member of MSE and provides advice within this forum as an official company representative."Now to trolling as a concept. .... ...We are currently paying Standing charge 25.27p and units 3.86p for gas ...
This sounds expensive! (... but doesn't take account of any discounts you may receive)
Ebico charge 3.77p per kWh - that'll be reduced to 3.675p per kWh from end of this month. The price includes VAT and there isn't any standing charge. (or higher primary/tier1 rates)
Use a couple of comparison sites to find yourself a good deal - make sure you look at gas & electricity from different suppliers as well as from the same supplier (dual fuel). Buying both from the same company is no longer any guarantee of being the best deal.
Using a comparison site will automatically include the effects of any applicable discounts."Now to trolling as a concept. .... On 16th March I did a comparison (by Kwh per annum) and NPower SOL 14 came out tops for the most savings over a 12 month period for dual fuel. Their figures included discounts which are only paid once 12 months on this tariff.
Having read a few adverse comments re their customer service  I had a rethink but decided to set the ball rolling as there is 14 day cool-off period :j. Today I received their paperwork with my address written incorrectly, which cheesed me off , so I came back to MSE and went through 4 comparison sites and NPower still came out tops price-wise for dual fuel or for electricity with Ebico top for gas.
I'm going to let the switch go through and I'm glad I practically live on MSE, but just this once I long for the days of ignorant bliss re gas/electric bills. It's taken me over an hour and a half to get to this stage and I'm definitely going to wear even more thermals next winter :rotfl:The 365 Day 1p Challenge 2025. Member #420 -
Hi all
Recently moved into a property and currently doing searches but as so many of you are so knowledgeable i thought i would stick details on here and see if anyone knows the best way forward
We have oiil central heating, no gas and i cook on electric, 2 adults 1 child in hours. oh works nights 4 nights a week electric isnt anything major i do have a dishwasher and i hardly ever use a tumble dryer. Lighting is kept to a minimum and i do make sure everything is turned off when not in use.( to the point i drive the family mad lol)
Currenlt with Scottish power who when we rang said we are on a standard tarriff
>>17p standard
>>11.724 per unit
>>5.802 for night useage
I have just had a look at Uswitch and its coming up with Npower saying
£57.76 Annual standing charge9.24p per kWhThe one thing that puts me off about NPower is that the customer rating doesnt come up too cracky
Any advice would be most apprecoated thanks in advance xx2025 Wins ::

You're on an Econ 7 tariff which gives you cheaper night electricity, ideal if you have energy hungry storage heaters working overnight. Not so good for you because you pay more for the electricity used during the other seventeen peak-rate hours.
Check out single rate tariffs - should be cheaper still.
People moan about Npower, Eon and SP more than the others, it seems. Don't know if this is because they are worse or that they have more customers. I've switched several times, have been with those three and others and haven't had any problems with any of them. That said, we're online DD customers and only speak to customer services when they ring up to ask us not to leave.0
