    Hi,
Just switched electricity from Eon to Robin Hood. Unfortunately Robin Hood's Nottingham tariff isn't available to me as I live in Leicestershire. I am not sure why it keeps showing up in the Energy Club comparison for my postcode. Perhaps MSE need to look at that?

    Hi ikr2

The energy data used for Cheap Energy Club doesn't currently allow for tariffs to be restricted to specific postcodes, so rather we have to limit it at present according to the wider energy region. It sounds like your property is likely in the eligible region but not postcode. This is something which we've asked the techies who provide the data to Cheap Energy Club to work on.

Fingers crossed we'll be able to make this work a little better.

I hope that helps to clear this one up.

Cashback is normally paid directly into your bank account within a couple of weeks of your supplier informing us that the switch has been completed.

Full details are available on our FAQ page.

    I hope this helps.

    Thanks.
Would this be the bank account from where my DD goes to the new supplier?

    Hi,

My main point is that I usually cancel my direct debit with my old supplier immediately and settle the balance with a one-off payment on the final bill. Eon have written to say I shouldn't cancel the DD as they will use it to take the final bill. I am a bit uncomfortable as I usually cancel the DD to avoid overpaying any more when I am not usuaing that supplier. What is the best course of action?

    Hi ikr2

You're fine to cancel the Direct Debit if it makes you feel more comfortable. Just thought I'd make you aware of a couple of knock-on effects.

When the account closes and the final bill is issued, we'll collect any debit balance through the payment arrangement about two weeks later. Similarly, any credit balance is refunded this way. If there's no arrangement in place, we'll ask for a one off payment or send a cheque for the refund. Both situations will take a bit longer than through the Direct Debit arrangement.

There's lower daily standing charges for paying with a Monthly Direct Debit too. These will go up as soon as the arrangement is cancelled. So it's best to cancel as near to the switch date as possible.

    Hope this helps ikr2.

Normally yes - we use the bank details which you provided on the switch application form.
  • Has anyone noticed that when you go on Cheap Energy Club to find the best deal, when you eventually go through to sign up the rates you viewed prior to this actally then have VAT added on?
I was looking to change to British Gas fixed until Dec 2016.
I would still save money although for example the gas unit price I viewed was 2.898 which in the end is actually 3.4776 per unit.

That is strange because when I have checked the unit costs via the energy club they have included the vat making it easier to compare one company against another. On the other hand bills sent by the energy companies have the vat added at the end of the bill

VAT on energy for domestic users is 5%. You seem to have calculated it at 20% there.
But as already said, VAT is added on to the total bill at the end, not the rate before it is multiplied by the kWh used. Suppliers just sometimes show the effective rate including VAT for ease of calculating what your cost will likely be. There can be a small error due to rounding introduced if you add VAT to the rate first. It's tiny, but can be there nevertheless.

Just to confirm what others have posted (thanks guys), the costs shown on Cheap Energy Club (savings, annual costs, unit prices, standing charges) are all inclusive of VAT. There's no need to add an additional 5% for VAT ontop as we've already calculated this for you.

I hope this helps to reassure you.
