Energy: Find the cheapest supplier & earn cashback

My npower online fix ended on Sunday and from 1st December I was put on their standard rate. Having used the Cheap Energy Club last year to switch to npower in the first place I was wondering if I could qualify for another £30 cashback if I use them again to change from Npower's standard to their online January 2016 tariff? I won't be changing companies but technically it should still count as a switch? or is the only way to change tariffs within the same company via the non online route i.e. calling them?
No cashback, so far as I'm aware, for switching tariffs within the same company.0 -

Hi there - Yes that's right, you can switch from one Npower tariff to another and you'll receive cashback through Energy Club.0 -

That is interesting news. The terms and conditions say:£15 cashback will be paid once for either a single gas, or single electricity change to a new supplier.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. T&Cs suggest I won't be entitled to the cashback but I suppose I will have nothing to lose if I did change tariffs via the Cheap Energy Club. Will it go through though? Is the CEC designed to deal with switches where the new supplier is the existing supplier?0

Has anyone had any difficulties switching to e-on through the collective deal? They've just told me they can't honour it and will need to re-quote. I'm in credit with my old supplier and have never had any payment issues. I've asked them to put it in writing as the advisor couldn't explain why to me over the phone (as he didn't understand!!)0

has anyone tried utilita yet? Im at a complete confused loss here
all I want to do is change my electricity/gas supplier, im on pre-payment meters as I prefer this payment method but im with Scottish power and o my word they are dreadful! Had nothing but problems with them...ive paid £145 into my electricity meter (not any gas included in this) in 2 months, they tell me my account doesn't show im even on pre payment meters and that the tariff is probably wrong...both my partner and myself work full time and there's no kids in the house....my partner works away all week and I work 42 hrs a week....where is all this electricity going?? Ive had the most dreadful time with them since may...........so much so I want to bail out.....my problem is trying to get quotes for my bills as my on-going tariff shows we use a huge amount of fuel....and we don't!....is it a good idea to go onto a smart meter? Ive got to do something quickly, at this rate im putting in £55 a week for both gas and electric...that's stupid....I was even accused of leaving everything on standby by Scottish power! we live in a small 2 bed terraced house that's 15 yrs old, well insulated and only have 1 tv and sky box, which I can assure anyone, is never on standby, I use lamps in the house with energy bulbs and my tumble dryer gets used once a week...theres only 2 of us! Its ridiculous but im fed up with the "never getting anywhere" with them so I need some help finding a new supplier.......just going back to the top of my post....has anyone used utilita? Are they any good, its not a fixed tariff, is that good or not? also is it a good idea to go to 2 separate suppliers for my gas/ electric? or a dual fuel package?...sorry lots of questions I know
its a mine field out there! Before I looked at utilits I was thinking EDF and that blue deal (its popped out of my head at mo)....help a desperate overcharge feeling mugged person, please

Hi MiddlePrice and welcome to the Forums. Sorry for the late reply, just spotted your post.
The MSE Collective Switch Tariff was only available through the Cheap Energy Club between 28 October 14 and 6 November 14. You'll have needed to go through the Club during this period to qualify for the MSE Collective Tariff.
Switches to this tariff are being dealt with manually by a specialist team. I suspect this is why the advisor you spoke to couldn't give a satisfactory explanation. I doubt they've had much, if any experience, of this particular product.
Sorry again for the late reply.

Quiet round here, isn't it? Maybe we've all been a bit busy the last three weeks.
Anyway, lilyput53, it's time now to take some control of your problem. I can't advise you on utilita, who I've never heard of, but I would suggest the first thing you need to do is take a reading of your electric meter at the same time each day - maybe as you arrive home from work? If the readings are consistent, try to work out how much you are using each day in kWh, and come back here for help with whether that is "normal".
If there are sudden jumps in the readings, then you need to report that to Scottish Power and get them to check your meter ASAP. If you can't get anywhere with them on the phone (I know, I know!!) then maybe a letter explaining what you have found might work, or get an electrician involved.
I think you need this sorted out _before_ you start switching to a different supplier.
Good luck, and I hope you get this resolved.0 -
Hi, just thought I would update all on your comments ref First Utility. Yes they are consistently cheap but you get what you pay. Their customer service is non existent, their ability to bill correctly suspect and if you need to contact them they will not reply to your e mail and to get a real person is nigh on impossible.
Just a couple of experiences to illustrate - we went onto a smart meter (great tool by the way)and they set us up with someone else s meter. Discovered this 12 months later, did not tell us just started adjusting the bills. 2. last year, did not bill us for 3 months, then did so and over charged. No notification they were having an issue, no apology but no surprise as still waiting for a reply to my e mails.
Now others are cheaper I would highly recommended staying away from First Utility as they are incompetent and have little or no regard for their customers.
Hope this is of use to those about to switch (I have just done so to Co Op as could not stand the aggro any longer)0
