. . . I am with OVO and changing to the Co-op. I did notice OVO have reduced their gas but as I was on a fixed contract they will not change to their new lower rate.
If you're changing to the Co-op then, presumably, your fixed contract with Ovo is coming to an end. Surely you can change your tariff with Ovo at the end of your current contract - or will the Co-op be cheaper?

Actually I have to pay £60 for the dual fuel to cancel which ends on the 30 May but should save about £20 per month. I also get £30 back from the energy club ! Yeah not a great saving but was fed up with paying out more than I needed.
  • I just can't get my head round the fuel saver club. The savings quoted seem to be based on the assumption that when my fixed term ends I will do nothing and move to the standard tariff. So they are wildly optimistic. If I stay with my existing supplier and switch to a similar tariff to the MSE tariff there is almost no saving. My tariff ends at the end of March giving loads of time in the Summer months to decide on a better tariff.

Best thing to do is to completely ignore any "savings" claimed and just concentrate on the annual costs of a full year on each prospective tariff. Don't forget to add any early-termination fees on the current contract to the annual cost

  • I notice that Martin does not take responsibility for calculating the 'savings'; he uses Moneysupermarket thereby dodging the issue of false representation. The saving he quotes for me of nearly a third off my combined bill for electricity and gas is not credible. At the most he might be able to shave 3% off. It is only by putting the figures into a spreadsheet that the facts emerge. How many other people can use spreadsheets I wonder? The Sainsbury deal ends just as the weather gets cold in February whereas my current provider EDF Energy's equivalent does not end till the weather turns milder in May and only costs a little more. I am wondering now whether this is making the whole site less credible. I would prefer Martin to charge a fee for access to the site and keep it impartial. By not using the energy saving club I am fairly convinced I can save money by shopping around instead. However I admit that less diligent souls would benefit.
  • I switched in the first collective switch back in October I am disappointed the my switch is still in progress and I am not on a new tariff still, this is a bit of a con especially as there are better deals out now which I cant switch to because my switch with eon is still in progress

How can it still be in progress ? Should only take about 6 weeks or you could cancel again because of the delay

This doesn't sound quite right. Have you spoken to Eon to find out the status of your switch - it really should have completed by now.

If actually you're just querying the status on your Energy Club account, just drop us a note to energy club AT moneysavirngexpert.com and we'll check this out for you.

MSE trumpet the collective switch which ends tonight at 10 pm. But when you look at ALL tariffs in The MSE Energy Club (I'm on EDF fixed) there are other tariffs which are cheaper. So why all the fuss about the collective switch? I cannot see why it is supposed to be cheaper than all the others when it clearly is not. Quote: "We've negotiated cheaper than the cheapest energy deals until 10pm today (Thurs)"
Another thing is that if you switch to Scottish energy with MSE there is a £50 exit fee (dual fuel), but with Uswitch there is no penalty. It seems to me that since MSE were bought out by Money Supermarket, they are playing the same game as the other switching companies.

Welcome to the club of those who've realised the "Cheap Energy Club" is misleading it's members. IMO they are skating on very thin ice and will fall foul of the ASA or similar if this continues...
