Energy: Find the cheapest supplier & earn cashback

There is never going to be the right time to switch. At the moment. I am in the process of switching to the Co-op which will save me about £20 per month. Now there is another new deal that would mean a further £25 per year cheaper. I don't think I would change again until I can save at least £100 per year.0

... just drop us a note to energy club AT moneysavirngexpert.com and we'll check this out for you.
I switched using Cheap Energy Club on 31/1, or I thought I had. I just called Sainsburys Energy and they have no record of me.
What should I do?
There is no contact phone number for CEC and I have no faith that I will get a response from energyclub@moneysavingexpert.com today, and today is the last day that the offer is available. Sainsburys offered to sign me up on the phone, but I would lose the dual fuel cashback.0 -
Do they respond promptly @MSE Dan L ?

We try to respond to emails as quickly as possible, normally same day or the next. If you've already applied with Sainsbury's you'll get the tariff (it sounds like it may have encountered a problem with this, but let us know and we'll escalate this with it for you).0 -
Welcome to the club of those who've realised the "Cheap Energy Club" is misleading it's members. IMO they are skating on very thin ice and will fall foul of the ASA or similar if this continues...
With you on this, absolutely. And probably an inevitable outcome of MSE now being part of the MoneySupermarket group.
I used to trust MSE for sound, relatively impartial advice, but since the buyout it's best perhaps to take anything relating to energy supplies in particular with a very large pinch of salt. The constant pressure to switch, switch, switch every few weeks may be (will be!) profitable for MSE/MoneySupermarket but it isn't necessarily the best strategy for customers.0 -
Only ever use annual usage figures now and have jumped to npower for gas and co-op for leccy. Went through cheap energy club and they just confirmed savings given by EHL but with the possibility of £30 on top.
Both above tariffs have no tie-ins and combined they are only £3 per annum more than than the cheapest Sainsburys dual fuel offer which carries fees of £60 i believe.
Only thing i'm bit wary of is npower as i was with them in the distant past and it wasn't pretty!
ps- was on EDF fixed May 2016 so no charge for leaving them.0 -
I switched in the first collective switch back in October I am disappointed the my switch is still in progress and I am not on a new tariff still, this is a bit of a con especially as there are better deals out now which I cant switch to because my switch with eon is still in progress
Hi Danhick22 and welcome to the Forums.
I agree with MSE Dan L, the switch should've completed by now. Even though started before our new faster switching process (about two and half weeks) began in January, it should be through. Have you spoken to us about this? If you have, what have we said?
Just a thought but have you registered with our website and it's this bit that's not live? We've had a few issues with setting up new accounts on our website recently. They're taking longer than usual to go live following a change of supplier. This doesn't mean we're not supplying you, it's that the online part hasn't caught up with the switch.
Don't worry if there's been a delay from our end. You'll be on the tariff requested from the time the account goes live. As you asked for the MSE Collective Tariff, you'll have a full year on these prices. If we are supplying, you can change tariff/supplier now even though the online account may not be live. There's no exit fee for changing to another E.ON tariff but there is for switching supplier before the end date. It's £5 per fuel.
I'm speculating here Danhick22 and sorry if I'm way off track. If you let me have a few more details I'll try to help further.
Malc“Official Company Representative
I am an official company representative of E.ON. MSE has given permission for me to post in response to queries about the company, so that I can help solve issues. You can see my name on the companies with permission to post list. I am not allowed to tout for business at all. If you believe I am please report it to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com This does NOT imply any form of approval of my company or its products by MSE"0 -

The savings quoted seem to be based on the assumption that when my fixed term ends I will do nothing and move to the standard tariff. So they are wildly optimistic. If I stay with my existing supplier and switch to a similar tariff to the MSE tariff there is almost no saving. My tariff ends at the end of March giving loads of time in the Summer months to decide on a better tariff.
Yes I find CheapEnergyClub does tend to overestimate. But it does show the individual tariffs (which are oh so hard to find on the Energy companys websites) and so I always calculate my annual fees and savings from there. Was a bit miffed that I've only just found out about Ebico as it wasnt showing up for me as either by accident or default settings it isnt one of the companys that you can get cashback on. I suspect that was a default setting so not too happy on that score as I dont remember ticking that box.
Trouble is all the sites overestimate the savings you can make. If an Energy Company doesnt show their tariffs but only makes a calculation for you, I give them a body-swerve. It's my pet peeve! Please energy companys make your tariffs easy to find without having to go through all that entering of your details. Some of us can do our own maths you know.0 -
I have looked again at my circumstances and it is by no means easy to find the best deal. If you think energy prices are likely to go up over time then the time element is very important. If you are fixing for one year then a fixed tariff ending on 31/12/15 makes no sense because most of you winter expense on fuel will come after that. So be prepared to pay a bit more for a deal ending on 1/4/16 say. Some tariffs are only offered as part of a dual fuel deal and there are (modest) discounts for taking both. However I have come to the conclusion that you can probably save about £100 pa by shopping around and buying the gas and electricity from separate companies. In my case NP for gas and SP for electricity. Whether it is worth the hassle of having separate suppliers is another consideration of course! Hope this helps!0

I'm with Ecotricity, on an Economy 7, Prepayment Tariff I signed up about 18 months ago, as it was the cheapest. I constantly check for a better tariff, probably once a month, but always, it remains the cheapest, whether I use the comparison sites or the MSE energy club. So in 18 months, my tariff hasn't changed nor has it been bettered.
So much for falling energy prices
So come on Eon, Npower, Scottish Power, British Gas, SSE, et al - play the game and lend some support by also passing on these falling prices to Economy 7 customers, especially those of us on Prepayment tariffs. 7p - 8p per kw/h for off peak is just ludicrous, in real terms, its now only a couple of pence lower than somebody on a competitive 24/7 standard rate tariff.
E7 was / is supposed to an 'affordable' alternative for heating those in households outside of the gas grid or those in rented accommodation, and in just three years i've seen the off peak side of the tariffs increase from around 4.9p to over 7p or in some cases, even 8p
I currently pay 19.95 per kw/h for peak rate and 6.06p for off peak and that is the 'best' tariff available, and it was also the best tariff, 18 months ago, despite all of this talk or rather hype about falling energy prices. So when, exactly are these falling prices going to be applied to those on Prepayment tariffs eh?.
Eon is probably the worst of the big 6 - charging 7.16p for its off peak in this area.
Non of the smaller companies handle Prepayment on Economy 7, so i'm pretty much tied to these stupid prices, which unlike their other tariffs, don't seem to be falling."Dont expect anybody else to support you, maybe you have a trust fund, maybe you have a wealthy spouse, but you never know when each one, might run out" - Mary Schmich0 -
