Take a look at their Jan 2016 tariff launched a few days ago.

For the figures typically defined as average consumption, it's in the cheapest 5 deals and within £3 to £5 a year of the best.
Thanks for that, I was unaware of that one. Energy helpline predicts a saving of £67 (5%) for me which is a significant reduction. I'll ring Scottish Power tomorrow to change tariff.

Isn't there a requirement for energy companies to inform customers of the cheapest tariff? I've not had any notification of either of the two previous tariff reductions that have applied to me.

There should be a section of your SP bill (usually at bottom of first page) that tells you of any cheaper options available from them based on your own annual usage.

If the alternative tariff only launched a few days ago, that probably explains why you have not yet been told of that particular tariff. (if it is actually cheaper for your own annual usage)

I can't check my bills at present. I updated my tariff to the SP Jan 2016 deal on the phone this afternoon so my account is not accessible in detail as it is in limbo whilst the switchover is processed. I just get a page showing the current status of the switchover. Having the information on bills may not be very useful as one may only request bills infrequently so could miss a good deal.

Whilst on the phone I asked the rep what their policy was on this matter. She said that for fixed tariffs they only notify customers shortly before the end of the tariff period.

I have not received notifications on any of the 3 price reductions on my tariffs this year and the other 2 had been on offer for quite a while before I went on the comparison sites and became aware of them.

If you're on a fixed tariff, I don't think the energy supplier has to notify you of other tariffs until 6 weeks before your contract ends.

Just out of interest, do they waive early-termination fees if you switch before end of contract to another e.on tariff?

That's what Scottish Power told me. However Scottish Power do state on bills if you are on the cheapest tariff or inform you of any better deals. Not ideal unless you ask for bills very frequently and of course read them.

    Hi both

Just thought I'd confirm what stevenpc has said. We don't charge an exit fee for switching from one E.ON tariff to another. These fees apply when changing supplier and then only on certain tariffs.

As steven says, on our current tariffs, the fees are £5 per fuel.

Details of any fees are on the letters we send confirming the tariff switch. They're listed on the website, too, so customers can see them before confirming the switch.

    Hope this is of interest.

My npower online fix ended on Sunday and from 1st December I was put on their standard rate. Having used the Cheap Energy Club last year to switch to npower in the first place I was wondering if I could qualify for another £30 cashback if I use them again to change from Npower's standard to their online January 2016 tariff? I won't be changing companies but technically it should still count as a switch? or is the only way to change tariffs within the same company via the non online route i.e. calling them?
