Energy: Find the cheapest supplier & earn cashback

Has anyone else has a letter from Eon offering to give them money as a discount from a final bill when I changed suppliers over a year ago? I am to ring them to arrange to credit my bank account for £11.29.
Why? I didn't query the non-payment of the discount on the final bill when I switched. What's in it for them? Am I just being unnecessarily suspicious? I would appreciate any information or views, especially from any Eon employees.0 -

I am just about to switch from Eon, so will be interested to see if they offer me anything .... will I remember this conversation in a year's time ?Thank you for reading this message.0 -
If you were entitled to the discount, it is your money.
You could have claimed it at any time up to 6 years.
More to the point, if the regulator were to audit these suppliers and find a regular pattern of "customer rip off" such as can easily happen if nobody reads the meter when the prices change, then the supplier can be fined and ordered to track down the (former) customers and give them compensation.
(Do I remember Thames Water getting in a mess?)
There is already enough of a fuss about us Brits being over charged to the tune of about 15% on gas because our suppliers are owned by other European countries. They look after their own first and then say the UK has to pay over the odds to get the gas to flow from Europe under the North sea.0 -
Hi
I am currently reviewing the best suppliers of Gas and Electricity to switch to from my current supplier British Gas.
I am however in credit on both accounts. Does switching cause any problems reclaiming the money or is this forwarded directly to myself after the supplier is changed?

hi, I rang british gas today and asked if I could cap, she said the only way I could cap would be to have dual fuel with them, I don't particularly want duel fuel.
I rang e-on and I can cap with them at the cost of an extra £4.50 a month
Does anyone know why british gas are in effect holding me to ranson by saying I need dual fuel?

With all the scare about prices going through the roof later this year. I thought I would check it out.
I recently changed tariffs with NPower to their "online 10" for both gas and electric, so I thought first I would check their website.
Low & behold there is a link saying "Energy prices fixed for free", click the link and you go to here http://www.npower.com/web/fix4free/index.htm and you are shown a code to quote and an 0800 number. WOW!
This freezes the prices until 31 March 2009 and for FREE!
So I called the number and 20 minutes later I was told that the deal was that you had to change to their Standard tariff (It did say this on the page), so with some difficulty they gave me my existing rates and the new rates.
They are
Online 10 Gas 1st 1143 6.88p then 1.99p
Standard Gas 1st 1143 6.88p then 1.99p
The SAME a good start!
Online 10 Electric 1st 182 10.69p then 8.50p
Standard Electric 1st 182 13.20p then 10.98p
That is a massive increase of 23.48% for the 1st 182 and 29.18% thereafter!
And their blurb says ...
Every now and again, we like to do something for our customers to show you how much you’re valued.
Who are they kidding!0 -

When I looked at the site they were not showing the electricity. A few weeks ago they asked us to give them up to date readings and today I have received an email saying we owe over £113 for electricity and £240 for gas.
I'll check the readings again but if these bills are correct I am curious as to where the extra is being used. I don't use the oven the way I used to but do use the hob regularly(both electric). We had the central heating on whenever necessary as I take Warfarin because I have a prosthetic heart valve and as my blood is so thin I feel the cold very easily. I'll look at ways to cut down but despite energy prices increasing so much our bills seem exhorbitant. We are using Atlantic, part of Southern I believe. We used to be with BG and were always being credited with overpayments but since then we have a new condensing boiler so maybe that has something to do with it.
It could be your boiler, we had a new one put in last year and was under the impression it would be cheaper, as did my dad, but alas no, it does seem to be dearer to run.0 -
So I've used this sites excellent advice for a number of years.
My current spend on gas & electricity is £820 per year
Going to cheapest capped/fixed option will take it to £1,127 £307 extra, an increase of 37%
"...predicting rises of up to 60% over the next year" Okay - not disputing that but it's going against the MSE grain a little to leap into paying more NOW based on let’s be honest, speculation.
So what to do? No doubt the capped/fixed deals will demise but isn't it against the MSE mantra to move in my position?
Maybe I'm just confused...:confused:0 -
I used moneysupermarket to switch gas & electricity & they now refuse my cashback claim-anyone else suffered similarly?:mad:0

Hi,
What reason have they give to refuse you the cash back? If you have used the site before and got cash back from them then unfortunately you wont recieve it a second time.
