Energy: Find the cheapest supplier & earn cashback

I once received cashback of £30 from Moneysupermarket (MSM)about 18 months ago after a successful swap of gas/electric supplier. I used same search engine in February 2008 to swap again, all went through OK. However it is now July and no cash forcoming. I phoned MSM and apparantly each household is only eligible for cashback once..........so there will be no cash on this switch. I'll use different engine next time!!

I've just applied to switch to British Gas as this was cheapest for me. However, I saw a press article this week (broadsheet not MSE) saying that BG were expected to raise prices by up to 16% soon. Can anyone else confirm? Does Martin know about this? His article says it's time to switch as all the current threatened price rises have happened.
Wondering whether to cancel the switch....
Feeling the pinch but trying to bring down that mortgage - thank heavens for MSE.com!

I believe that the last round of increases has finished and so it is a level playing field.
I wouldn't be surprised to hear that prices are set to go up again, though. I think the point is that if BG put their prices up by 16% then the others will all put their prices up, too. Not necessarily all by 16% - some may be more some may be less.
If BG is the best deal for you now then you are probably best to switch to them.0 -
Fair point, thanks, JimmyTheWig. And even if BG does go up first, at least the increase will be offset by the saving from my current supplier. Thanks

Just looking into this switching at last. So many options!. One question, if I do a capped serach it comes up with options on dual fuel and on electric only but not on gas.
Questions are:-
a) does this means only the electric element of the dual fuel will be capped.
b) As biggest saving will be to change the gas does this mean I can switch again to capped if one comes up later (as long as no tie ins)0 -

I've just had the same problem so won't be able to use MSM ever again which seems ridiculous. I think this should be made clearer on the website. MSM say it is in their T&C & also on MSE website but I can't find anything.0 -
Existing N Power dual fuel customer and I switched tariff on moneysupermarket.com which offers £30 cashback for dual fuel. Confirmation came up that this also applied to existing N Power customers (we took the N Power One fixed tariff which also offered free 12 mths boiler cover). Initially received confirmation from N Power , then 4 weeks later got a letter saying that as I was an existing customer my new contract had been cancelled. Called them and they said moneysupermarket had no right to offer this deal to existing customers and that I could switch tariff direct with them, which I did. Is this a way for N Power to avoid paying a commission and me getting my cashback? Who is to blame and has this happened to anyone else?0

Scottish Hydro, do they do a capped tarrif?
I am with them and explicitly told me they do not.

Hi mushyg99,
As a newbie can I say welcome to MSE?
If you go to the top of this page you will find a box "search this thread". If you put Ebico in the drop down search field, you will answer your own question.
The answer is slightly complicated because the electricity we buy is probably not produced by the company we pay, and that applies to all electricity sellers.
Personally, I am with Scottish Power, which is Spanish Iberdrola in disguise.
