I just switched to nPower 2017 Fixed deal..is the price rises going to affect this? i.e. will the prices be fixed higher than previously? seems to be the top deal on the energy switcher (not as cheap as edf 2017, but longer fix for sake for 30 quid)

    Any help appreciated

and to clarify - the prices will be fixed from todays tariff prices - not the prices set for 1st Dec?

The price for the npower December 2017 fixed tariff is fixed once you've signed up to it.

I imagine it will be around for a little while, because it has just replaced the npower March 2017 fix, at slightly higher prices.
  • Hi, Just joined the CEC and found it very helpful. Have decided to switch for the first time ever!!!!

Just received welcome e-mail from Scottish Power; so thought I'd read the terms (always a good idea). Could have made a mistake but, I choose SP for fixed price and no cancellation fee.

Read the terms, SP say if you leave before the end of the fixed term there is a £25 charge per service(Gas & Electricity) + VAT at 20%. I am reading the T&C's right or have I misread the CEC SP tariff.

    Can somebody help.

    Regards

    Cliff

In winter turn all of your radiators on full blast, set your thermostat to low or just above the click, make sure your radiators do not scald, this will help you heat the space inside the building (not the structure and fabric of the building as well) have all the radiators bled, set your heating timer as follows: on 5am off 5:20 am, on 10 am off 10:10am, on 1pm off 1:10 pm, on 3pm off 3:10 pm, on 5pm off 5:20 pm, on 7pm off 7:25pm, on 9pm off 9:20 pm, on 11pm off 11:10pm, on 1am off 1:10am. (2 hrs 25 mins total)

Interesting post but so much of it is difficult to apply to a stone built, 1840s house with very little double glazing. The heating timer has only two settings and the only thermostats are on the radiators which were installed, by a previous owner, beside the door of each room. If we leave the doors open, the corridors warm up but not the rooms.

Where did you see the "no cancellation fee"? It looks like there is indeed a charge for leaving before the end of the tariff.
If that is unacceptable to you, and you are still within their cooling off period (typically 10 working days after signing up, but you should have been informed when you signed up), then maybe you can cancel and look again at switching, although 3 of the big six have already announced significant price increases, so the rest can't be far behind.

  • I've asked this elsewhere on the forum, but since this thread seems to be very active, I'll ask again (hope that's ok).

I used the club to find me a deal, and it was with the same provider as I'm already with - I chose it and everything went through.

I got an email saying it was being processed, and the "my account" page shows that it is in progress.

As its the same provider, will I have any issues?

Maybe. You should've contacted your provider directly to change tariffs - you're not going to get cashback anyway.

The NPower site is a real pain to use - their "switch tariff" option is

    1 - Hard to find
2 - Works like you are a new customer, or at least feels that way

Anyway, just had a reply from the man himself:

    "<me>
@MartinSLewis Please can you confirm if your energy club works if you switch to a deal from the same supplier that you are already with?

    Martin Lewis ‏@MartinSLewis 46s
@<me> yes but you may not get the cashback"

    Phew!

Quick comment, I use topcashback quite a bit but EDF gives nothing.
MSE cheap energy club gives £30 for EDF.
You're right about EDF's lack of cashback for switching directly with them.

Only Scottish Power, NPower, First: Utility, M & S, Co-op and SSE offer cashback if you switch directly with them using Top Cash Back. And that's only with certain tariffs for some suppliers.

However, comparison services also offer cash back via TCB. I used Make it Cheaper, which offers £35.35 for a dual fuel switch. This becomes £37.11 because I get my cash back in Amazon vouchers with a 5% top-up. That beats the cheap energy club's £30 although the energy club method is more user-friendly and once you've done it, it will keep reminding you in the future without any extra effort.

    Should have gone to specsavers!

The article has a massive section on "
More help with switching energy & picking tariffs"

but you do need to expand the article to see the content.

Exactly. Without the expansion , the article contains just two sentences on alternatives:

"More help with switching energy & picking tariffs.

You may be able to get extra cashback using alternative comparisons"

I said I was probably being fussy but there are 3 references to the energy club cash back in the article and just this one reference to alternatives. I think the article could be more even-handed with the alternatives.

Relatively experienced switchers know about checking cash back etc. but there are a lot of people out there who have never switched and there is a lot of informaton to take in if you are new to it all.
