Turns out the best thing for me to do is to switch from nPower Go Save to Price Protector December 2017.
Just wondering, can I still "switch" using a cashback site like TopCashback even though I am only switching tarrifs not suppliers?
Thanks in advance for any replies.
Afraid not. Cashback only available when changing supplier.

I need to know exactly the same. Probably switching from Npower standard to Npower price protector December 2017 too. Can I still get cashback?

    Including March 15 fix.
That's interesting but puzzling. energyhelpline was one of the sites I checked yesterday. I repeated the comparison this evening and SP tariffs were still not included in the results.

I'm already with SP on the Online Fixed Price Energy January 2014 tariff which appears to be having an effect when I use energyhelpline. If I select a different Current Supplier the results do show the SP tariffs. I have never had this behaviour previously. Any ideas?

Not that it's a big issue now as I have already selected the SP March 2015 offer using my account on the SP website which is a very simple procedure. On the website SP recommended the March 15 tariff for me, I would have expected them to recommend one of the longer term tariffs.

Edit:- Sorry about my messy quoting. I only just noticed the "Multi-Quote" option on the forum software.

Im on the Scottish Power online fixed Jan 2014 tarriff and whatever comparison I do works out more expensive than my current tarriff. Obviously the comparison sites dont factor in the imminent price increases just yet.
You can expect this to happen as you get near to the end of a fixed price deal. Whilst you have been on your current tariff all the energy companies will be have increased prices to more than what you have been fixed on. This demonstrates the benefit of you choosing your fixed tariff previously.

If you use the energyhelpline comparison site it will take this into account and produce your results compared to the tariff you would be automatically transferred to if you do nothing. This is explained at the top of the energyhelpline results page together with a link that allows you to switch to a comparison with your current tariff.

In this case do I just go with the 'first best' on the list ??? - the first best being around £100 more expensive than the current tariff.
Depends on what you consider to be the "first best". In the current climate I believe another fixed tariff is the best bet.

  • Hi All,

I'm new to the forum. I'm currently using meters at home and on standard tariff with British Gas and EDF.

I want to switch as I'm paying around £160 per month on both utilities. I have tried to get a comparison from the energy club but they only tell me deals on PAYG tariffs.

My dilemma is that British Gas say I'm in debit for £120.
I don't want to pay this upfront can it be transferred over to my new supplier?

Who would be best to go with as I do not mind switching to monthly DD but I know we are right in the middle of a price hike with all the suppliers.

Who does the best fixed deal?

Also who does the best cash back as I know Energy club are offering £30.

    All helpful answers welcome.

    Many thanks

Unfortunately, BG is not likely to let you switch at all until you have settled your account - unless you are on a pre-payment meter.

Hmmm I might have to bite the bullet on that one as I personally think is wrong I will send them another meter reading to ensure all is good.

    Who is the most competitive?

You will need to use an energy comparison site to answer that one. It depends on your energy usage and your energy region.

What do you mean by the fact you are in debit?

Has BG demanded you pay that money i.e. sent you a bill demanding payment? Was it over 28 days ago?

If not, then you are free to switch supplier.

Shortly after the switch takes place, you will get a final bill from the old supplier and that is expected to be paid immediately.
Sometimes you can negotiate with that supplier to pay the final bill, perhaps say over 3 months, but not usually much longer. The supplier you opted to leave isn't going to be too worried about goodwill, if you ditched & switched are they?

If you know you will end up owing money on the final bill, and don't want to get a final bill, and so a demand for payment, I suggest you don't leave the supplier.

But at least contact the supplier to see if you can get yourself a better tariff than the suppliers standard (expensive) tariff. I'm sure you could.

Btw, you really should be in credit, not debit, with your supplier at this time of year. Sounds like you should be contacting your supplier to see if a increase in the amount you pay each month wouldn't be a bad idea. :)

    Interesting.

Where did that info come from?
