I am going to switch to M&S from SSE but will I still get all the store vouchers they offer if I switch through an online site or do I have to switch via M&S site? probably says in the small print but hope someone knows save me having to read loads of stuff.0

So glad I'm with Ebico. Based on my first week's readings I'll be paying ~£3pm during summer (hot water only). If I was still on the standard tariff that I had to join when I moved into my flat, I'd be paying ~£7.50pm. :O0

You may have been eligible for cashback when you switched supplier. (Even that may be put in jeopardy if you then switch tariff before receiving the cashback)
You will not get any cashback for changing a meter - you need to apply directly to your supplier for this.0 -
I did do cash back when I switch supplier. I'm going to have them switch meters then going to switch tariff.
Didnt know about the switch jeopardy... Cheers for the heads up.0 -
If anyone could shed some light on my fuel tariff dilemma i would be very grateful. I am looking to switch to a better deal. Currently on scottish power standard tariff at £148 per month with a £200 credit on the account. When i price search against that criteria, the deals on the moneysaving expert site are telling me i could save if i switched.
When i input my actual yearly kw/h usage then all the deals are telling me i would pay more. If i have built up a credit of £200 over the year on my scottish power tariff on my usage then i can't work out why i wouldn,t be saving if i switched to a cheaper tariff. Am confused?..
Any help, would be much appreciated. Would i be better off just staying with scottish power and fixing if the prices increase later in the year.?0 -

Hi Nayma
I'm not sure what is happening if you are updating annual kWh and your quote is more expensive. We have cheaper deals than Standard (as I'm sure other suppliers do too). If you would like us to check your annual kWh for you, or need any other assistance with this, please contact us at the e-mail address in our profile

Hi Nayma,
Aren't all these tariffs confusing? I hate that.
Just to clarify, is this dual fuel, or just electricity? Have you been on the standard tariff for long enough, over a year? How have you calculated the annual usage?
Many of the comparison sites use price per month or consumption per month, while the only accurate measure is consumption per year as you have used, and this should be used if possible. Also, most suppliers deliberately put the monthly payments higher than necessary, in order to ensure they get to keep your money for you, earning interest for them, and ensuring that you can't default on payment. Most will reduce the monthly payment if you argue with them, but that's no help when deciding which supplier to use in the first place. Oh, how I wish they would simply tell you the cost per kWh and then let us decide who to buy from, as with "petrol pricing"! Some will reveal the price per unit when you go through the process of getting their deal, but before you commit, but many obscure it until as late as they can. This makes it very hard to get an accurate picture. I try to construct a spreadsheet showing my options when doing comparisons, as you can't rely on their calculations. They all try to get more money out of you if they can.
If you wait until prices rise, and then change to a "fix", you will end up paying more. Fixed rates are usually more expensive than variable to start with, and you are gambling on prices rising when you take them. My view is that prices _will_ rise, and the longest fix you can find as soon as possible is best, within a price limit, but not everyone would agree. When i input my actual yearly kw/h usage then all the deals are telling me i would pay more. If i have built up a credit of £200 over the year on my scottish power tariff on my usage then i can't work out why i wouldn,t be saving if i switched to a cheaper tariff.0 -

As the article says, entering your anticipated annual usage in kWh gives the most accurate results0 -
Thanks everyone for the advice. We have been with scottish power for two years and i have to say they have been great. I suppose that, like lots of people, i was just looking to see if i could get a cheaper deal. I agree that it is quite confusing trying to work out costs. I may try scottish power again to see if they can offer me something better as running my account with them has been very easy. Thanks again for the help .0
