EDF blue price promise say they will tell you if anyone is £1 a week cheaper which means they wont tell you about some tariffs that come up at just under £50 cheaper eg. first utility in my case. So its still worth keeping an eye on the comparison sites.0

Its all electronic data transfer and was from the moment deregulation commenced.
So no reason then that the whole thing can't go through in 24 hours like porting a mobile phone number.
The only reason for the 6 week transfer time allowed by Ofgem in my opinion is to cut down on switches to make life easier for the suppliers who they regulate but who also provide their income.
The other thing that should be absolutely prohibited but sadly hasn't been are any variable price tariffs that try to penalise you for leaving the company. Penalties or charges for fixed price tariffs are fair enough since there has to be a trade off for being able to guarantee the price.0 -
I notice Martin going crazy on the guide telling everyone to use Huge Switch to get their £50 cashback but it's a complete load of bollox. I compared ALL the prices there with uswitch and uswitch is cheaper by far even after factoring in Huge Switch's cashback. Using the same suppliers and tariffs, uswitch comes out at an annual saving of £169 while Huge Switch is £152 including their cashback.
Another big con that Martin has fallen for. Thankfully the Huge Switch "deal" ends later today so it save anyone else from getting conned if they're not savvy to check the figures with other comparison sites.0 -

I think you need to work out how to use comparison sites.
Uswitch isnt cheaper, Uswitch dont charge for anything so how can they be cheaper?Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -
Yes indeed I agree with last post. I was about to switch through the big switch today but thought I would ring my current supplier n power to tell them I was leaving after 8 yrs because they couldnt offer any cheaper or even close tariffs to the one I am on now ( sadly due to end in a few weeks) and they told me to wait till @25th june and some more compatible tariffs would be coming into play. So as I have till end june I will give them the benefit of the doubt and see what comes up ....sounds like they know something we dont... or maybe they just want my money for another month! I can always get me £30 cashback through Topcash if I do switch.0

Just to confirm what many of us have long suspected it has just been announced on the 5pm news on Radio 4 today that MSE Martin has sold this site to Moneysupermarket for £87 million.:eek::eek::eek:
According to Radio 4 news he says that the £87 million won't stop him looking for two for one vouchers and other money saving methods and that he will still be "as tight as ever".
But try telling anyone on a £5,000 year pension that Martin is in just the same boat as them and I some how fear that they simply won't believe him.
Any longstanding assessment of Martin has always shown that he is not another Victor Meldrew like most of us but is in fact just another starry eyed brash marketing man who always saw a website based on selling money saving to the impoverished as a very good way to make himself a large fortune.........
EDIT:- Apparently he gets £60 million straight away if moneysupermarket shareholders approve the deal and another £27 million over the next three years.0 -

I read that there will be 35 million in cash and the rest in shares. He intends to give 10 million to charity, of which 1 million will go to the Citizens Advice Bureau. :T0 -

He has to do this so as to try not to lose credibility if he wants to carry on acting as a supposed moneysaving hero.
Regarding the £1 million for the CAB I hope they will be using part of it to replace their very nasty revenue sharing 0844 numbers with affordable and price neutral 03 phone numbers. Or perhaps Martin should insist on this as a condition of making his donation.0 -

I suppose you have already forgotten about those of us who peruse this website and who either nearly lost their money for good in Icesave UK as I did or actually lost their money for good in the channel islands versions of Icesave as quite a few others did.
My recollection is that very few people would have ever though of putting their savings with Icesave if Martin hadn't done such a fantastic job of promoting how clean, safe, secure and high interest paying they were (along with a very dodgy Indian bank that by pure luck didn't ever go belly up).0
