    Hi, all.

This is very confusing for someone new to Forums! How do I post a question> I can see how to reply (hence writing this here!(, but no button for 'New Post'. Sorry if I seem very dim!

    Many thanks,
    Ian Manning

I'm sick of reading Martin's plugs to his links and failing to mention the fact that you can ABSOLUTELY TROUNCE the cashback by using websites like Quidco and Topcashback etc.
To quote Martin talking about the BIG SWITCH through Which..
While switching with cashback via the links above gives an even cheaper deal, plaudits to our friends at Which? for disrupting the market and showing people the gains from switching.

He fails to mention that there are even better deals out there.
That wouldn't have anything to do with the cash generating (for MSE) click through links he is continually plugging?? What is it £30 or £40 a go?
Of course not. The already very wealthy Martin plugging the links that generate money for MSE???

And how do you think MSE pays for it's hosting service and staff wages then?.

Noticed that BG want nothing to do with 38Degrees big switch. Good job really. Remember, if switching via the 'campaign' and you are one of the first 20,000 to register with the C-Op, make sure to apply for a members card to get back a divi each year.
With the 'Big Swicth' I had the choice of EDF @ £25 saving or Co-Op @ £5 saving. Based on my usage, the C-Op divi will be worth £30 a year, so worth getting the 'card' (not that I would sign-up with EDF (French Scum)).

The switch takes 4-6 weeks but that just the time to do it. The important part for you is the registration date, the 4-6 weeks is from there but the registration date is the cancellation of the old supplier and agreement with the new one. Consider that with your contract end date.

If I've read your post correctly what you are saying is not correct.
Energy suppliers would like you to believe that is the case as clearly you move to the standard, more expensive tariff for a period of time after your contract ends. However, if you challenge them you'll get a change of heart..............
Any fixed term contract ends when the person or organisation stops supplying, not when you announce your intention not to renew that contract.
The contract with an energy supplier is for the supply of energy. As long as this is the case you still have a contract with them.
On 'registration' all you are doing is announcing the intention not to renew. The original supplier is still supplying and continues to do so until completion of the switch. It is the switch date that determines the end of the contract and must be outside the original contract period to avoid charges.
For example, if you took out car insurance you'd start the process before your old insurance ran out but you'd still be insured. The fact that you have notified them that you will not be continuing is not a determinate of ending the contract early.

    Hello there

We have recently moved home and are with Southern electric for gas and electric. On researching, I have found I am better off with EDF energy. However, we have noticed the meter (s) say 'PROPERTY OF SOUTHERN ELECTRIC' are we still able to switch, or will we need a new meter?

    Many thanks for any help

I used all the main comparrison sites to compare my gas and electricty with my current supplier Ovo, each site said a lot of other suppliers were significantly cheaper proposing savings of 100-150 a year-great i thought. Theyd compared my tarriff (Ovo energy Variable) witht he others. However! Be warned! I looked at what figures the comparrisson sites were using as my existing tarriffs and to my horror the unit rates and standing charges were grossly inflated, they were nowhere near what mine actually are! When i compare my actual tarrif rates from my statements, witht he cheapest the comparrisson site came up with, i was already on a much cheaper tarriff

So be warned, i nearly switched to a supplier that wouldve actually cost me more, even though it said it would be cheaper!

Something needs to be done about this as its likely that all the tarriffs are not correct that theyre comparing against
  • I decided to switch in March and used several comparison sites. I had all my figures for the past year, so was able to make an accurate request for quotes, but it was immediately obvious that the quotes returned were not based on my current tariff because they said I was paying more than I had.

I simply ignored the quotes and looked at the tariffs of the cheapest suppliers, and their contract flexibility. I opted for EDF Blue +Price Promise.

I can switch when I want without penalty, and they will tell me if any of their competitors are cheaper. Also, they have monthly offers, and I've already had £10 off my bill.

I've seen the industry 'excuse' for so many tariffs ...everyone's needs are different! ...it's just b*****ks. Surely, everyone just wants the lowest price and any extras available to encourage them towards one supplier or another. They buy gas at one wholesale price. They don't buy it at a different price if it's going to Accrington Stanley! Of course, someone will respond that it's so much more complicated.

I hesitate to say there is finally an energy supplier who is listening to what consumers want, but I'm happy enough ...at least until September 2013.

    No it can't be.

You have to start your switch either from quidco.com or uswitch.co.uk You can't do both things at the same time.
