I have built a spreadsheet that allows you to compare your current tariff with other tariffs to see what the real cost will be.
The spreadsheet just requires your actual usage in kWH and the Daily Standing Charge, if you pay one. Both bits of data is supplied by every energy supplier (although it may be in small print)!
You can then easily compare the different tariff options.
I have built this for my own use based on Dual Fuel Tariffs and I am happy to share this with anyone.;)0 -
Sometimes you get complacent thinking you've got the best deal. After a year of usage with my current supplier I realised I'd been put on a standard tarrif and could save bundles. Ended up with £530 saving (according you uswitch, my calcs show about £200) and in a few months I'll hopefully have a free box of wine to boot. Made me think about other ways of saving...Tim0

Hi,
I am currently with British Gas for my err.... gas (live in a rented 3 bed council flat)
Prices for my STANDARD tariff (according to my last bill) are:
8.291p for first 551 units, then 3.797p for the rest
Monthly direct debit is currently £18 pm, but this was upto £24 until I complained. I am currently £60 in credit.
A few price comparison/switchers say I can save 47% by going with: EquiGas
from their website:
EquiGas costs 4.788p per kWh including VAT. (at all times)
As of the 26th March 2012 EquiGas will cost 4.573p per kWh including VAT (4.36p per kWh excluding VAT).
So, it certainly seems worthwhile but they get hit and miss reviews. I'm tempted as I am on Debt Management Plan with CCCS and need to cut back, but EquiGas seems to good to be true.
Any opinions please?
Oh, I have been with British Gas since 1995 when I moved into the flat.
I don't know why I am so loyal to them.0 -

im currently with scottish power and its just gone over a year.
im on one of there dual fuel tarriffs.
been looking at comparison sites and also taking cash back in consideration(tcb, quidco etc)
npower websaver 11 comes out the cheapest in terms of duel fuel but cash back is not great.
been also looking at there other tarriffs they provide and which give good cash back.
the funny thing is if i choose 2 different npower tarriffs then it works out much cheaper than duel fuel tarriff including cash back
does npower allow it's customers to have a seperate tarriff for both elec & gas?
cheers0 -
just seen the MSE link to Uswitch to get a free case of wine if you switch dual fuel. The offer is 8 bottles and 4 glasses, but their small print T&Cs state that you get 12 bottles. Not sure which is more legally binding!
I've also created a spreadsheet. I put usage for each quarter, as this way I can compare SC and NSC tariffs together - NSC is usually much better if your usage is low at certain times (e.g. I use very little gas over the summer/autumn quarters). This comparison is far more accurate than the energy comparison sites, and whilst they say Npower go fix is best for me, I find that OVO 12mth fix is actually better!
But then you look at teh details and notice cashback offers. Gaaaaahhh I thought this was supposed to get simpler! Now, additional to finding best energy supplier, you now gotta search for the best comparison website!!0
