Energy: Find the cheapest supplier & earn cashback

Hello All,
I just switched using the following method which thought some people may be interested in using. I was looking for a long term fixed tariff.
1. I used simply switch (offer £40 cashback for dual fuel) to find the best deals in terms of saving vs current supplier. EDF were the best, with c.£100 best saving and c.£40 saving for the longest fix named price protection 2014.
(I agree with salad-bowl's post that the best products all seemed to be fixed deals anyway).
2. I double checked those figures with other comparison sites.
3. I then went onto top cashback and searched for cashback on switching energy suppliers, they offer £22 cashback for going to EDF directly and signing up for dual fuel.
4. I then went to EDF who offer £75 cashback for signing up to their fixed price protection 2014. So I signed up.
The whole thing took less than an hour and the result is I have a fix for approx 2.5 years, that is cheaper than my current deal with n-power, and with the cashback from both EDF and top cashback, I have over £90 heading my way:D (as long as everyone pays up).
The tariff is not the cheapest fixed out there but it is a long term one which is what I wanted.

I must say that I'm a little confused now about whether your name is Mike or Tara?;)0 -
I'm in the same boat as a few on here - British Gas, Duel Fuel, Websaver 10 and paying by fixed DD every month.
I checked the comparison sites and am confused. I looked at BG to see what the cheapest is that they can do for me and it all seems a bit of a con really. They say that i could save around £40 with the new tariff on what i pay annually at the moment and I 'could' save up to £120 with their energy smart tariff as well - if i use their free electricity meter to cut my usage by 12%. Electricity's not the problem!!! I only pay £15 a month for that - it's the £36 per month for gas that's the killer.
So basically if i don't cut my electricity usage by 12%, then i won't get the £602 bill for duel fuel this time in 2013 - it will be one for £720 odd pounds instead! Which is a heck of a lot higher than the comparison sites are showing.
Are BG having a laugh by workding it so that it looks like they're giving us a good deal, but actually it relies on the consumer to cut their own usage in order to get that good deal at the end of the year??
Should i try separate providers for electricity and gas in order to save on my gas?0 -

For anyone using SimplySwitch:
Just wanted to confirm that I used them in October last year and have just received the £40 dual fuel cashback into my bank.
Took a little longer than the advertised 90 days from application but everything went fine and, as with all cashback, I'm just glad to see the money appear in my account.

I completely agree with Phylpho, the tariffs are unnecessarily confusing, the two tier rates are extremely difficult to decipher, especially when it isn't clear how they're applied to your bill.
Many say x pence per quarter... when does a quarter start, what if you start mid-quarter with that supplier...0 -
Better Energy in Nottingham are great. 3.3p per KwH for gas and no standing charge or complicated tariffs.
Happy customer with no connexion to the company.0 -
I have been thinking about changing providers for ages. ~What should I do first0

Hi,
Anyone know if its possible to get a tariff if you live on a farm ?
Thanks.0 -
The Tariffs are insane.
If anyone wishes to check their bills, or compare tariffs with each other AND they have an Android phone.
Look no futher - there is a bill calculator available for Android, here:-
