Just a note that Scottish Power have increased the already amazing offer on topcashback to £140.50 for a dual fuel switch.

    topcashback.co.uk/scottish_power

On those website I can see only £62.00 for Dual Fuel and £42.00 for Single Fuel purchase

Also the way things are now you have to switch at least every two years if not more often as the companies constantly only offer you the lowest prices to move to them and then try to roll you off on to more expensive priced deals once you have been with them for a while.:mad::mad:

This isn't always the case. I always look to change at least once a year but Scottish Power always seems the best for me (economy 7). In part because I never have to pay the fee for changing early which is very reasonable of them as I am only on electric and I am a light user (£23 a month). It is always worth checking every 6 monthly and changing early and paying the fee if you are going to save. Also if your own company has a new good deal, change to that if they will waive the fee or maybe reduce it. The latter is surprisingly easy to achieve merely requesting the information on changing early normally gets me all the latest offers!!! The fee is normally about £30 (electric only) hardly a killer for people on high consumption? JB

Hello Guys- just starting to look at this again as i believe my current deal with EDF (online version 5) is up at the end of July and then i think i'm going onto their standard rate. I notice a lot of the best deals carry cancellation charges. So my thinking is to maybe go with Scottish Power (£101 on quidco at the moment) on the lowest tariff they have without a cancellation charge. This actually shows me being slightly worse off for the year but if i take the hit for the next couple of months and wait till it is up and running and then look at things again . I have never changed purely for the cashback alone. I assume i could stay with EDF (not asked them yet) and go onto online saver V6 but this has cancellation charges and no real price protection.

    Any thoughts?

I see Scottish Power are offering £70 for dual fuel switch, if you use topcashback and go through USwitch you get another £23, Moneysupermarket say £20-£30. I've not looked at other comparison sites yet but there are decent deals out there!

Thanks for the response but according to quidco they are £101 for a dual-fuel swap. From memory (and feel free to correct) but surely they won't pay from one of the comparison sites and also a cashback site. It would be nice though as quidco are also offering £24 for purchasing through confused.com .

What i'm talking about doing is with the market the way it is and not being sure to change supplier or not just moving to Scottish Power as the cashback is relatively high at the moment and leave when it suits me. This will actually be quite quickly as the 2 SP tariffs without canc charges are Online and Online(no standing charge) which aren't that cheap at all really

I though topcashback got the money from the site - uswitch, and the other cashback came from the supplier - Scottish Power, 2 different sources? Or does the supplier also give the money to uswitch?

Hello, I'm looking into this, probably too late to cap by the time I get a reply, but English not being my mother tongue, I am not sure about the following - can anyone help ? :
    1. If you switch to the same fuel company but to a different scheme, is that still considered Switching ?
    2. If you use the same switching company to switch as the one you used the last time (eg Energy Helpline), is it still considered Switching ?
    3. How do you know if you have a specific length contract (nothing appears on the paperwork).
    With many thanks

    No.

Yes. As long as you change supplier (but you may be better off using Energy Helpline just for the price comparison and then going to the suppliers site via a cashback site link (eg: topcashback) for the cashback. http://www.topcashback.co.uk/RetailersByCatUtility_Services.htm

It is unlikely that you have a specific contract (unless you are on a fixed price deal?) but there may be an exit penalty for switching supplier before a certain date. Phone them and ask what tariff you are on and if there are any exit penalties.

I switched my gas/electric from Scottish Power to Npower 3 months ago and have got £120 cashback from Quidco and Npower. The original offer from Quidco was £90 cashback but, whislt I was switching, the offer was changed to £120. I sent an email to the Npower CEO to complain and hey presto, Npower then credited my gas/electric account with £30.

I have now got the £90 cashback from Quidco into my bank account; although they have deducted a £5 admin fee that is standard for them.

I also received 2 free electricity monitors from Npower. One was sent to me by mistake but I just gave this to my brother.

I'm really happy. I'm on a cheaper tariff, got £120 cashback and also received 2 free electricity monitors.

If anyone hasn't switched, please keep a look out as there are some very good deals out there. Hope this helps.
