Hello, I'm looking into this, probably too late to cap by the time I get a reply, but still :
    1. If you switch to the same company but a different scheme, is that still considered Switching ?
    2. How do you know if you have a specific length contract (nothing appears on the paperwork).
    With many thanks.

I forgot to add the following question to my previous post :
    - If you use the same switching company to switch as the one you used the last time (eg Energy Helpline), is it still considered Switching ?
    With many thanks

Nooooo...I switched to Scottish Power yesterday via the link in the email and Energy Helpline who were offering £50 cashback...now I find I could have gone through Quidco and got £130!!!

Unfortunately it seems that Martin Lewis appears to think that £80 is a perfectly reasonable fee for him to take for each person he advises to switch to Scottish Power in his weekly email.

However perhaps he will send you a ticket for the party that he will presumably be holding when he in due course launches his newly purchased 200ft personal luxury yacht.
  • I used a website that I think is newly set up this year called mystudentbills.com, I did a dual fuel switch on my gas and electricity and saved £404! result! :-D

Have a look, its pretty useful,

    Josh

We're about to complete on our new house in the next few weeks - obviously we'll be needing to set up all utilities afresh - can anyone advise on the best way forward? Thanks

The best way forward is to use a comparison site such as uswitch or one of the others, and read through this thread.

Thanks doc, was after the latest recommendation, apologies but I don't have all day to read through 63 pages of posts and I don't claim to be an expert in this field, hence my post 

Just a note that Scottish Power have increased the already amazing offer on topcashback to £140.50 for a dual fuel switch.

I suggest you use the comparison sites for... um... comparing.

Then once you know which provider and which tariff you want, check the cash back sites to see if there are any offers by going direct.

Then choose the offer that's right for you.
    Wine? Cash? Discounts?

I think it's sneaky to try to get more than one offer at a time - most websites will detect only one and if you're messing about, you might not get any of them.

By the way, if you haven't joined topcashback, check the referrers board for a joining bonus! ;)

There is no latest single best recommendation that is right for everyone. That is the whole point.

Which deal is best for you depends on both where you live and how much gas and electricity you use. Only after you have run those details through https://www.energylinx.co.uk, https://www.whichswitch.co.uk, https://www.moneysupermarket.com etc do you then have a picture of which supplier is cheapest for your use level of energy use in your energy region and you can then at that point also check out who is paying the largest cashback if you sign up through https://www.topcashback.co.uk or https://www.quidco.com

Also the way things are now you have to switch at least every two years if not more often as the companies constantly only offer you the lowest prices to move to them and then try to roll you off on to more expensive priced deals once you have been with them for a while.:mad::mad:
