While I have some sympathy with you, what the girl said is correct. The houses are full of elderly people who's families have grown up & moved out. They cant force them to move to other accommodation & the houses. with young families in them aint going nowhere.
There is no way of knowing whether accommodation with one more bedroom (which you are asking for) will solve your problems with condensation & heating bills, it may be worse.
Perhaps looking in alternative areas might help.
Talleyho, I wouldn't expect anyone to move out of their house, that they have lived in for most of their lives and all their memories are there. I hope that we will be able to stay in our house like that.
Unfortunatly we can't go to an alternative area because my childs school is near here and it is the best in the area, especially for children who are bright. It is also near the hospital and my doctors to which I have to go to every week. Also I have to walk everywhere as I don't drive because of a medical condition so it is useful to get to these.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0

With HA you have a house for life.
I'd stay where I was and sit it out.
You are right and we do intend to stay with the HABSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0

Hi tigerfoot2006, sorry to hear about your situation.
Just a thought - do your local HA offer a scheme whereby there is a financial incentive for people to move from homes which are too big for them now?? My local council ran a scheme whereby elderly people were offered a one bed flat in exchange for their 2 or 3 bed house and they received £500 compensation per "lost bedroom" too.
Might be worth suggesting it to the HA!0

Thanks Cats will suggest it when I ring my housing officer on Thursday.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0

The flat has raging damp in the bathroom and bedrooms. We thought it was coming in from outside. They've done tests and told us it's due to lifestyle!! In other words we have to many belonging and there is to much stuff and we are breathing creating condensation.. We are 5 people living in a 2 bedroom flat, what are we supost to do?
5 people living in a 2 bedroom flat isn't so bad, especially if you have a living room! I have a collegue with exactly the same living arrangements, and he copes just fine.
Why not concentrate on the damp issue, and if 3 bed houses are in high demand, then why not ask for another 2 bed property without damp? Do any of you have asthma which is aggrivated by the damp? With 5 people taking baths/showers daily, you'll need to keep the windows open. We always open our window in the bathroom to prevent damp even with just 2 of us living there. Yes it's a bit cold, but I just put a jumper on, and much prefer it to the possibility of having damp!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0

I've done some research and they cost 2-4p an hour to run so that's not to bad. It's just 48p-96p a day or jusy under£3.50-£7 a week. That's not too much on top of our £40-45 a week electricity bill  .
I have been scouring freecycle foe one but never seen one come up before. May just bite the bullet and put a wanted add on. Maybe only have it on overnight on the cheaper leccy or something.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0

I'm glad he is coping just fine. I am trying to concentrate on the damp issue. I open the windows for a time everyday for a time. I have a baby and a toddler so it has to be kept warmish during the day. The extractor fan is on 24 hours in the bathroom and I open the window for a time after everyone has finished bathing in the morning./evening.
We won't be able to afford to move if a 3 bed does come up and we have moved to a 2 bed.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0

Really you should wait until you are eligible for a 3 bed before moving. Once you are in a satisfactory 2 bed your chances of being rehoused may drop.
At what age will the children count for more than 1 person between the 3 of them?5 people living in a 2 bedroom flat isn't so bad, especially if you have a living room! I have a collegue with exactly the same living arrangements, and he copes just fine.
I don't agree, I would say that there would be a lack of space and privacy with 5 people in a 2 bed. A situation that would get worse as the children get bigger.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
