I did try everything you suggested but it asks me to confirm my password at ****** (fsmail.net name) on mail.btinternet.com...and I don't seem to know what that is, I've tried every password I've ever used.
pretty sure password authentication is only 1 way, either sending or receiving so try using your btinternet password when it asks.0 -

if you have broadband basic then you have a log on password...otherwise you just have a user-id
the password it is asking for must be the one for your normal email acoount...have you tried Upper and lower case for the password ??Ex forum ambassador

Jay-Jay ... you may be with freeserve but your e-mail account in Outlook Express has to be Wanadoo ... when you put the Pop and Smtp addresses in when setting up the account you must enter wanadoo :-
pop.wanadoo.co.uk
smtp.wanadoo.co.uk0 -

I don't remember my password or user-id.
I've tried every permutation of every password I've ever had.
Not to worry folks, I downloaded the thingy that lets me use Yahoo as default instead of OE, so I don't think I'll ever need to use it again.Just run, run and keep on running!0 -

I am with Wanadoo but as OE has never worked for me I don't really know what it is or what it's for.....apart from things like reporting abusive posts on here and clicking on 'contact us' details on websites.
I use my Yahoo and fsmail email addresses for everything so do I really need OE?Just run, run and keep on running!0 -

I know what you meanbut I've wasted enough hours on POPs, SMTPs (or whatever they are) and non-existent passwords....time I could've spent taking the mick out of people in the Arms
I am truly grateful for everyones help...... I tried 'almost' every suggestion to no avail......I think I'm a lost cause.Just run, run and keep on running!0
