Similarly for freeserve account see here for settings ( I know it uses the word "wanadoo" for certain things now but I have an old freeserve email account and using the word "freeserve" still seems to work ok)

    http://www.wanadoo.co.uk/help/email/freeserveemailsettings/outlooksettings.htm

half hooray! The good news is that it accepted all the details I put in from that link.

The bad news is that it wont send any emails due to '550 Administrative Prohibition'

So I've got all the right settings but there's something stopping them from being sent.

Could it be the passwords that my Other Half set when he initially got this computer?

    JJ,

According to this site it looks like it could be to do with your junk mail settings. What exactly does the message say?

Just re read it and it seems YOU could be on a black list from the address that you are sending to (yourself?!). (Scroll down to Junk info, that's where it say "550 administrative problem".)

    Oh Fran....I'm drowning here!

I deleted the error message and the Mail Account, set up a new one and tried that.....zilch!

Can't I just uninstall the damn thing and start all over again?

    :(

Right.... Thunderbird? If I use that can I get rid of OE?

All I want to be able to do is click on the red triangle to report a post, press send, and for it to WORK!

can it be done with Thunderbird?

    JJ,

Changing to Thunderbird won't necessarily make any difference - as I said in last post it could be to do with the settings of the RECIPIENT. If the recipient is you then you can alter your junk mail settings to allow yourself to receive these emails.

However you might want to try Thunderbird anyway....

I have Thunderbird but OE still on pc.

Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)?

righto Fran. I've been trying to send it to my @yahoo.co.uk account.... I'll go and check my junk mail settings.

Onzey, I'm with BT Broadband but when I click on the IE icon it opens up a page with freeserve in the top corner.

Right. Try changing the outgoing mail server in your account(s) settings to

    mail.btinternet.com

i.e. instead of smtp.freeserve.co.uk for example

you will need to set your outgoing email server to mail.btopenworld.com , this is to stop people spamming from their servers...you may need to put your bt account details for broadband in as your server details...if you log on to your bt broadband account via Internet explorer there is normally a section under help that will set up Outlook Express for you...

This might well be an SMTP authentication issue; many ISPs have begun cracking down on spam, leaving many e-mail users high and dry. And their advice to 'switch on SMTP authentication' sometimes doesn't help, especially if you're still using an e-mail account supplied by someone else.

Have you tried using YahooPOPs? Or, even better, bypassing your ISP's SMTP server(s) entirely? Software such as PostCast Server works wonders. You'll find some handy instructions on how to set it up here.
