hahahaha - i love people who say "i think you've completely missed the point" you couldn't be more patronising if you tried!

Sorry if it came accross that way. You joined the thread to say you 'might buy one tomorrow', I wait eagerly for your report on the asus of course. But then you picked on one point in my post and gave your 'high horsed' comment, to be honest from that I thought you were iliterate.
Drop the attitude sweetie - you only work in an office

You couldn't be more wrong :D
It could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.

and hes argued his way round to agreeing with me....

That wasn't the way I saw your post. I saw your post more in support of the 'typical' laptop user and agreeing with the original OP's post to which I replied. Much of your 'evidence' supported that theory.

You may see it as you made your point, but you failed to in my opinion. There isn't one 'typical' laptop user. There are however users that wish something more from their laptops. Something I did by providing the accompanying list of further examples and drawing on personal experience.

Anyway, this isn't the thread for this, it should get back to the original topic of the Asus eee pc and I eagerly await bouncyballs analysis of his\her new asus, should s\he be able to afford one ;):D

I think you're focusing too much on one word here 'typical'. If 95% of people dont need a tiny lightweight laptop, and that you've agreed with me on, then to me its not meeting what typical laptop users want. But then, its not aiming to do that, and i guess Asus would be more than happy with 5% market penetration.

Lets just not pretend its for anything other than a niche market.

Don't think anyone was promoting it as the only PC/laptop you should own - and for about the same or less than (eg) the iPhone, has to be a good deal if you're in the "on the move" market.

I currently use an XDA when travelling - does the job, a bit clunky for more than occasional use, but a lot more convenient than taking the laptop. Maybe a niche market, but at a couple of hundred quid, I suspect they'll do pretty well (and/or force the small laptop market prices down).
