Currys.digital have matsui dvd players at £14.99. Got it and works perfectly fine
comes with a nice chunky-ish remotes too as opposed to some tiny thin ones you get in some of these players nowadays.

Hello,
I currently have a Philips DVDR3570H, but the codes I have found dont unlock it, and so I am looking for a very cheap multiregion dvd player. Any suggestions please?
Thanks v much.0 -
Just thought I would post an update on the £13 Asda Onyx DVD players, as I bought 2 of them back when I saw them in the e-mail from here, and one has stopped working properly, and I have opened it up, only to find that a control chip on the power supply board has basically fried, it is surrounded by scorching on the circuit board and the chip itself has a glazed look about it, meaning that it is ruined, the only way to repair it is to replace the power supply board, which would probably cost as much as the DVD player cost 1 1/2 years ago...
And speaking as someone trying to live a greener lifestyle, this waste is not acceptable, given that there were thousands sold roundthe country, and most have probably failed by now and entered the landfill sites, it's not a good idea to buy cheap just because it's got a feature only high-end units usually have, as cheap items are built to a certain standard of quality in order to make them cheap, which in turn impacts on the environment we live in...
Looks like I'll be digging out the old Sony DVD player again, region free was handy, but used infrequently, and the Sony has lasted far longer...
As for the other Onyx DVD I have, that is stored in a box somewhere, has had light use, so should be ok, and would only be used when the region free feature is required... :rolleyes:0 -
In-store at Argos for £27.99. The Bush DVD2051DIVX is available, but use 'reserve and collect' to save one before going in-store. It has rather a nice mirror effect finish, region 2 coding and comes with a battery filled remote.
Hi guys, i clicked the above link and purchased the dvd/divx player from argos today and it doesn't play any of my dvd's with xvid/divx files burnt to them, any idea's why not????
Please help!
Thanks,

I've done a little more investigation into the Onyx, and it seems that the unnecessary plastic shroud round the PSU is the cause of the failure, as it blocks off the air vent below the PSU, meaning the air doesn't flow through over the now fried chip and causes overheating...
But, as I have found this out, I can save my other Onyx from the same fate as the plastic shroud is not needed, there is sufficient insulation from the casing in the form of a ~1cm gap as the PSU is sat on spacers for such a purpose, and I'd advise others with confidence for such work to do the same, assuming your DVD player hasn't already failed...0
