Cheapest DVD Players...prices now sub £10!

I noticed a few people have mentioned Toshiba as an alternative for DivX dvd players, namely the SD270E.
Personally, I bought one myself recently from Amazon for close to £28(plus free delivery, woo!) and I must say it is rather excellent! Admittedly it is bigger than I was expecting width wise, buy quite slim heightwise, and I have yet to encounter a single problem with it playing my DivX files or various kinds of discs. You can get it off Amazon now for £28(don't forget your super saver delivery!), and I think it's a brilliant bargain. I've heard not very good things about Pixmania and the players they supply too, but this is good and it's got a half decent brand name behind it too! Plus, it seems to have consistent good reviews from customers as well! I find it to be good picture and sound quality, plus good subtitle support for DivX. The last plus point, it's multiregionable also!
(taken from a customer review on amazon; )
The Hack Procedure:
- Power On
- Open Tray
- Press 9879 0 (0 stands for Multiregion, you may press buttons 1 to 6 to choose a specific region)
- A Message appears stating that "The Reg.No was changed to: [insert whatever region (0-6) you selected here]"
EDIT: I forgot to mention one downside of the DivX feature that does annoy me, it only handles 10 character filenames basically, so if you have lots of similar files beginning with a string longer than 10 digits, you won't be able to differentiate them in the player. The simple solution is to rename them before/during writing. The player also seems to play DivX files in an order I haven't yet determined lol, so it's pretty crucial to be able to identify files off their first 10 characters.0 -

Has anyone else experienced this?
I went and got one of the Mikomi DVD 287's for a relative and converted it to multi-system format but the Power-On (green) and Power-Off(red) led light (or, some people call it the stand-by LED) on the front is HUGE and the most annoyingly powerful I've seen, including in comparison to the LED's on the neighbouring video player, tv and freview box. This light makes you squint - it is so powerful and annoying that the unit needs to be shut off by the plug just so the LED won't be disturbing; otherwise, it needs to be covered with tape. That little light must eat up relatively huge amounts of power, compared to other little LED's that are standard. Very disapppointing.0 -
after I returned my DVD 287 because I couldn't find a hack on all the usual forums, I then found this one posted. I haven't tried it (because Argos has now put the price back up to 19.99) but it is listed specifically against the DVD287. The other hacks listed in this forum didn't work for me.
Power up
Open tray
press Setup
Press next (>>) 4 times
should show current region setting as 2
press (>) until 255 is shown (all regions)
press Setup
I would be interested to know if this works for anyone0 -

Ummm… couple of potential problems with this one. People who’ve already bought them have said that it may not upscale properly, which would be really crap. I’ve tried to post questions, but the website errors and won’t do it. Be careful.0 -

www.dvd-unlock.co.uk and by using the Tesco Value306 have managed to change mine to region free.
1-Power up and open tray
2-Press setup
3-Press , next,next,next and next (on remote looks like >>I ) thats 4 times
Current region setting will say 2 .
4-Now press the > button which is to the right of the centre button until it says 255 (the code for region free)
5-Press setup
That worked for me.
Good Luck
Mikomi DVD287
The above hack worked for me.
I've noticed that if the DVD player is disconnected from the mains supply, when reconnected the DVD player reverts to region 2. Not a problem - re-enter the hack and away you go again.Do It To Them Before They Do It To You
