Work have agreed I can finish at 2:30 everyday without loss of income or holiday.  Apparently this arrangement was already in place for those who couldn’t work full time.  IT would have been nice to have been told but at least I’ve got it now.

It's been a while since I've been on the site and everything has changed!  I like the new look but it's taking me a while to get use to the changes.    I've not been doing too much potting lately because of paying either by card or online.  I managed to spend some cash today, so I can pot £2.50 into my pot.

Still potting away, my husband is retired so our income is the same, we're saving well mainly because we can't get out to shop! Family are fine so far, DD1 is self isolating for the 12 weeks and DD2 is working from home. Like everyone else we're missing the grandchildren but DGS face times us most days. DH was 70 the other day -- a big shock to him because he doesn't look or feel it! Hope everyone is staying wel.

Oh Hetty, my heart goes out to you at this rotten time, but I really can sympathise with you as our Son was a little terror during his younger years. Thankfully, my darling Hubby soon realised how to handle him and he came out the right side.

Am I right in thinking that your Son is only quite young, around 6 or 7? Also could his bad behaviour be as a result of the stringent lockdown weeks? At school kiddies can mix with friends which makes a huge difference to their behaviour, if your Son's behaviour is to do with the current times, I bet you're not the only parent having problems with their kiddies.

He's certainly keeping himself safe by not wanting you to confide in anyone else, which also shows he's well aware of how bad his behaviour is, trouble is with him saying that and you forced to agree, you can't do right for being wrong! He'll possibly become worse if you tell your parents, his Father or anyone you both know well. On the other hand, while you don't tell anyone, he's winning that way and getting away with it, which means he could get worse!

You yourself know which punishments he responds to, and whatever works....carry it out, regardless of his wishes or pleas. Don't ever threaten a punishment and then not carry it if his behaviour doesn't change, as he'll have deserved it and will know who's boss! Try anything new, it's well worth it. Also, try playing to his sweeter sides, with some youngsters this can appeal more. Have a good talk to him and perhaps tell him you'll make a chart for use with stars ONLY for good behaviour; have something, a reward that you know he dearly would like/to do, so that when he reaches 10, 20 or so stars he will deserve the reward! That reward could also be the retrieval of something you've taken away when he played up, and if he still doesn't behave then take something else away. He'll soon learn that he cannot misbehave and get away with it, which I'm sure is his thinking now.

If this is all down to the lockdown, then let's hope to goodness it won't be too long before he can return to some sort of schooling.If there's a teacher he responds to, you should tell your DS you'll need to speak to him/her if he doesn't change his ways. This all me remembering about a programme called "Super Nan", I wish she'd been around when my Son was young!

BTW. I didn't have a Father either and know I could be a little beggar at times. That ended when I was 6 and a very dear lady took me in with her Husband and Daughter, she had an incredible influence on my life and was very firm indeed which my Mother wasn't. So, be careful not to pander to your lad, it doesn't help and very often takes the opposite route.

Please don't let yourself get too down Hetty, he needs discipline given along with love in equal measures and will later grow to appreciate both.If you need a listening ear, please don't hesitate to PM me, I don't have all the answers by any means but it might do you good to get it all down on paper so to speak. 

I'm really pleased your firm have agreed to your lesser hours, though why on earth make you aware at the start!!

How about doing something together with your DS during some of your free hours, something fun like games, puzzles, going for a bike ride if it's possible, or teaching him to ride if he can't yet. Anything that he can look back on as having fun. We'll all well remember 2020 for sure, but give him some good times to reminisce about that won't cost anything. All best wishes Hetty xx

I know I've plenty on my plate, little_sweetie, but I'm still always here for others, including you! At present DD has the Relapsing & Remitting type of MS, but without either of the 2 medications, which are given by fusions at hospital every month, I'm fearful she will go to the Primary Progressive part!! Time will tell. 

T & I are unable to get shopping delivered, there's never any slots! Still we do the click and collect and T goes to collect it. I'm sure many items have increased considerably, rotten blighters! 

As you say, money too is very different for you after all you used to make. Do you need to include anniversaries or can you say we won't give to you and you don't give to us? I'm sure friends won't mind, some often find it a relief too!

I hate this new MSE format with a passion, it makes things far more difficult for me without having any other colours and sizes!

Hi Lucy, good to see you too though I know it's not been long since you were here. I'm extremely fortunate with our Grandchildren as the younger boys are next door! I see the girls and eldest Grandson on Facetime, so all in all we're very lucky indeed. It's not just your Hubby who's hit the 70 mark, my Birthday was on March 5th and took me to the same number!!!! I can't believe it either, but age we must.

Long time since I have posted. Not potting a great deal as I am shielding so not going out at all and we have had most of our shopping delivered. If my husband or daughter do go to the local shop for milk any change they bring is being potted.

Added more to pot yesterday- current total over £230 which is close to my normal Christmas presents budget (I don't usually spend it all due to points and vouchers either.) Usually save up same over the year for Christmas and Birthdays.

I am not saving well at the moment as I was saving all my loose change but I haven’t used cash for around 2 months now. I did claim £10 from Q Park though so that will be added to my total. Guess I’m saving a fair bit anyway by not shopping or going out anywhere.

Hi Sue-UU thank you so much for your kind words and advice, it is very welcome.  My son turned 7 in March.  I adopted him as a single adopter when he was 10 months old.  He was lucky in the fact he went straight from hospital to foster carers and then came to me so early but there was alcohol in pregnancy which has resulted in some difficulties although no where near as bad as it could have been.  Both my parents passed away before I became a Mum and I no longer hear from my sister.  My aunt and cousin and also my best friend who lives about 25 miles from me are helping me through it.  The support teacher from school who spoke to us this week said the “best” thing is he knows it’s wrong and major problems occur when the children have no idea their actions are wrong so I take comfort from that.  We have started working through My Hidden Chimp book again, his chimp brain is called George so sometimes I address George!  He can have his moments without all this going on around us but more and more he is saying he wants the virus to go; it’s incredibly hard for us grown ups so goodness knows how the kids are feeling.  This weekend has been a little better so see how a shorter work day goes tomorrow.  I also found 5 £1 coins in a tin (not the tooth fairy fund) so I’ve stuck them in the pot 😁

Finally I will have something to add to my sealed pot, although now just a virtual one. I have had an ongoing complaint with one of my banks and it was ignored for ages - going back to 2018. I made a final attempt 2 months ago, and they called today to advise that they had dealt with it, apologised for not dealing with my previous attempts and gave me £100 as compensation which will arrive in my bank account within the week.
