Welcome TMD. I would suggest that you stick with daily syns to start with until you get used to the plan. There are quite a lot of us that use weekly Syns as you'll probably gather from reading the thread. My syns are mainly used on alcohol!
There is absolutely no need not to have carbs - I always feel hungry if I don't have carbs with my meals so I just have them - after all they are a Free food but as others have said it is important to not to feel hungry or you will feel deprived.I always always gain weight if I have too many carbs, partly because I have no sense of feeling full
Most things you already eat can be eaten on SW or can be made SW friendly just by sensible swaps such as using 1 cal oil spray rather than oil, although if you like things cooked in oil there is no reason why you can't sync the oil - although it is high syn at 6 per Tbs!
Have you registered to use the SW website yet? If not do register asap as you can check your syns (the website is more up to date than the books as they are updated regularly and they do change!) and check out some recipes. Bubbs is right when she says you'll want more spice and usually less stock/water than their recipes suggest. I find a lot of things are quite watery if you stick to quantities. Yep have registered and printed off a few recipes to try
Definitely give your own recipes a SW makeover! and post some of them on here - don't think I've ever had Korean food but would love to try it. There are only 2 Korean recipes on the website so will definitely be working out others
Thought I'd just mention that the 20% mince is 7 syns for 100g so that will help you work out the syns for using what you have. Definitely buy 5% mince in future. oh thank you-that will divided into 4 so not much...although with up to 25 a day I seem to have far too many lol
Also you don't have to use both HEAs or your HEB if you don't need to although it is there for health. The 2nd HEA has only recently been introduced! It just used to be one of each. Also if you'd rather use both HEAs as cheese there is no reason why you can't. Also if you used the reduced fat cheese you get 40g rather than 30g for HEA. oh in that case on days that I don't have porridge I will have 2 cheese
Sorry that's getting to be a bit of an essay so will post again later with today's menu plan. By the way your plan for today looks good although when I have scrambled eggs I have at least 3 eggs! 3 eggs?? Are you sure I will lose weight this way?

Out of interest TMD, what is it that you would use your syns on? Like denise I choose to drink most of mine.;) Bubbs eats fairly low syn/syn free all week and then has her big pizza 'picky' tea on Saturdays. I've saved syns for weekends ever since I started but doing it daily will help you get used to the plan and give you leeway for using things up like the mince. Daily syns is the official SW line as they believe everyone needs a treat every day to stop them feeling deprived. That's true of some people but not all IMO.:)
My danger food is fast food and crisps and chocolate and biscuits and cake.. I can happily eat an entire pack of biscuits alone and a family size bar of chocolate after eating mcdonalds and not small portions either... Having looked at the syns I can easily see why I gain weight...but I honestly don't know what to use syns on...I don't have any planned for today as I'm simply too scared to use them.Debts Jan 2014 £20,108.34

I reached target and always have at least 3 eggs (sometimes more when DH decides he wants scrambled eggs on one slice of toast and beans on the other!!!
The main part of the plan is to make sure you eat at least 1/3 Speed foods, as far as possible have them on the plate as well as in your meals. But of course there are some meals where Speed foods just don't go! I tend to try and get 1/3+ of Speed over the day and not necessarily on every plate of food.
I also sometimes do veggies days (the old Green plan but that seems to be frowned on by consultants! but it worked before EE was introduced). This way I definitely get far more Speed foods in.
If you think you'll gain too much weight having carbs try having just the recommended portion sizes from the pack (portion control). It might possibly be that your portion sizes of carbs are too big.
Give it a go and see how you get on.
Make sure you do your food diary and hand it in at Group, your consultant can then see that you are doing the plan properly. Also please make sure you have at least some of your Syns every day. Have as many as you manage and then as you lose weight your consultant will cut back the number you are allowed to have.

Just read your second post TMD and see what your problem areas are. The best way around this I think is buying smaller packs so that you can have the foods you want without going overboard.
Treat sized chocolates for example. Another trick I use is to freeze Curley Wurley and it then lasts all evening and all for 6 syns! Something that people at my group have mentioned doing is freezing grapes with sugar free jelly crystals - put grapes in a freezer bag and empty a pack of the SF crystals in and then seal the bag and flatten it before freezing. A sweet treat for 1.5 syns. Another thing I occasionally grab when I'm out is a small bag of Magic Stars (they're a bit like small star shaped Milky Way!) for 3.5 syns. They were my sweet treat when I was having weekly visits to the hospital.
There are low syn crisps but its not something I eat. I think Pufts are one of the lowest at 3.5 but worth checking syn values in your book.
Hope these ideas help.

I didn't have much to lose only 1.5 stone but losing weight is the same whether you have a little to lose or a lot.
Trust the plan others have had as much to lose and have done it. Just think about it as 7lb at a time. In fact some people eat as much as they can the first week and manage to lose that in one go! Those of us with less to lose are lucky if we can lose a 0.5lb a week so it still takes a long time.
Bubbs has lost quite a bit and you've seen the amount she piles on her plate. It's not about the amount you eat it is what you eat. So pile those veggies on. Try putting your veg on the plate first and then there will be less space for the rest of your meal. I try to have near half a plate of veg so there is much less room for the protein and carbs.
Enjoy your lunch.

It's harder when you have to buy in snacks for a family. I only shop for DH and myself so if there's something I would find it harder to resist I just don't buy them. I love crisps so I'll have a single packet when I'm out as a treat rather than buy a multi pack which would call to me from the cupboard. Having a slice of cake in a coffee shop is better than eating a whole cake at home. I buy cakes and biscuits for DH but I buy him things I don't like so I'm not tempted.
Some people make themselves up a box of treats for the week and tell the family they are off limits to everyone else. So you'd have your syns there to enjoy through the week... just don't eat them all on Day 1!:D
Please don't be afraid to eat or have syns but conversely don't just eat because you can. It's hard to get the diet mentality out of your head. I'd ignore any consultant that says you can eat as much free food as you like. That's not logical as it has to be matched with Speed food. For a traditional meal that would be a third lean meat, a third potato and a third of Speed veg or for even faster weightloss 50 :50 meat and vegetables (I wouldn't do this too much though as being hungry can lead to snacking on rubbish).
You'll probably have an amazing loss next week if you stick to plan (keep posting your menus) then it will settle down into a more achievable weekly pattern.0 -

EESP isn't recommended for the 4 weeks of doing SW TMD which is the 50:50 meat/veg that Maman mentioned. Absolutely agree with Maman that you shouldn't eat for the sake of it and definitely use at least some of your syns every day.
I know you said you didn't have any syns planned for today but please use at least some of them as the plan really doesn't work well if you don't have some. I know lots of people at my group when they have had a gain say they haven't used their syns so they definitely seem to be needed. You could even syn some extra cheese if you really wanted to but it's not something I'd do on a regular basis but as a one-off to ensure you have some syns it might be worth it.
