I think you are right about making sure your basic living costs are covered before worrying about the extra debt.  There's always a risk that you'll need to borrow it again anyway otherwise.

That's the worry. I can see my budget and it's not got the flexibility at moment to chuck money at the debt. Very disheartening but also it's more important at moment to make an emergency fund again isn't it.

Definitely worth having that emergency fund.

EF is essential with cost of living going up as going to have less available money spare sadly. Great news on the pay rise. How long until you find out about UC?

Find out on wed. In theory once DH back in work and my payrise in place we won't be entitled at all which is okay. Until then I have kind of got my fingers crossed we get some as we have spent more than we earn. SSP is only a basic amount. Anything we get will cover his next two weeks off. We will find  a way. We always do

26 pounds for gas and electricity this week.
Didn't do much cooking in the heat but had fans on so not bad. Fairly quiet day planned today. Hopefully no spending and lots of tidying (how boring)!
Managed a few reduced items in the meat section at Aldi last night so that's teas sorted for this week. Dry but windy till early afternoon so off to get the washing out 🙂

Up early, it's chucking it down and pay day tomorrow whoop whoop. No Tilly tallies today as have 69p in the bank and unsure about transferring it and leaving it at fully fledged zero  No big plans today but have got a few little bits sorted for later in the week. Made extra mash yesterday so cottage pie it is today. Far easier to meal plan and use things up when your off work isn't it 😉 have a good day everyone

Excellent news. Our universal credit statement has come through. We have been awarded just shy of 700 pounds. DH had 3 sick weeks in the last assessment period and our childcare costs were over 600 so this is such a relief. As a household we have less income overall than we would if properly working but wow I am very relieved and off to budget. He is still on SSP so the money will go towards this month as opposed to paying off the debt from last month but things are gonna be manageable again. I will do sensible budgeting I promise !

Just to add we have to commit to wraparound care and give 4 weeks notice to cancel a place. No option of not using whilst off sick. Tbf that's to cover staff wages at school as they are contracted.
