I use the 'really old' skin on my home PC with the green background.
Works perfectly for me. The newer version works well on my win10 work PC.
I realise there is a shift to mobile nowadays but personally i like it just fine the way it is. Hopefully, 'legacy version' will still be an option.0 -
Another vote for using the desktop version. I've found browsing on mobiles far more difficult and apps having less functionality than desktop websites. If mse started concentrating on the mobile site at the expense of the desktop I will have to seriously consider not bothering to log back in here again.0

Please, please, just let me use double spaces after sentences!Think first of your goal, then make it happen!0

The competition forum needs a rethink. We need to be able to hide categories or entry methods we don't want to see and hide competitions we have already entered or viewed. We also need to be able to view closing soon comps or new comps.0
-
PLEASE allow us to keep the original old green version.
I have sight issues and all of the newer versions make it extremely difficult for me to use. I have to use a desktop PC rather than mobile phone to view as well, so PLEASE make it desktop friendly, rather than purely geared up for mobile use.

There's nothing actually wrong with VB3 to be blunt about it. V5 is pointless and V4 is a step 'sideways'
Sorry this is a fractionally "forum guru" post. I do speak with a lot of forum software experience though from various companies and authors, both free and paid software. I did QA/Alpha/Beta testing for many years with forum software.
Lack of modern 'adjustments' is V3's biggest issue but it is relatively old software now. It will work on some later php versions and can be made to function on 73 with a bit of work too.
XF is a good alternative. WBB (latest one) is quite reasonable too. Both of these are up to date, secure, and relatively easy to use for both the end user and the administrators as well.
Please let us hope you do not pick one of the 'framework' based solutions that really do not work properly with slow internet connections, as they rely (afaik) far too much on grabbing external (js etc) resources.
I've applied to 'join' too as I'm highly curious on what platform was chosen for this. I'll be able to (likely) ID it even if its restyled and unbranded0 -
Those asking about the 'original green' , this is actually not *that* far off how the software appears in its original form, in layout/posting screen/topics/posts etc etc.
The other 'styles'/'themes' present are much different as expected.
I use the green one too.
Depending on what is planned will obviously effect the user-experience (good/bad/other) as well as the eventual style layout. I did post some comments when I 'applied' for the testing actually but without detail. I could talk for ages about forum software but I'd bore people to tears/death if I did no doubt.
The major thing I think is this version does not really ideally cope with mobile devices too well. Not having a suitable device I'm not sure however as I 'see it' (with years of experience) mobile detection simply causes it to use a modified/custom theme/style which is more suitable. This is usually acceptable but the web keeps moving on...
More and more use mobile or portable devices for their "web fix" so things must also move on...
Boring tech bit for the mildly curious: If anyone wanted to know the 'original format' for this software "out of da box" (so to speak) is actually blue:
That's actually one of my own sites fwiw. Purposely small pic as its merely to point out the fact the 'green' here is quite similar aside from colour to the default thing.0 -
Please let us continue to use the green screen, the newer blue one is very bright and gives me migraines. The green screen is much easier on my eyes and doesn't give me headaches and lights swirling round, so much nicer!0

My guess is that anything new will be to help monetize the whole forum, so , for example, no members lists, just those provided by the site experts.0

What you need is to find out how many use
1. MSE Competitions forum on a desktop.
2. MSE Competitions forum on a mobile.
3. Other MSE forums on desktop
4. Other MSE forums on mobile.
Because if you're asuming we're all doing this on a mobile platform you're wrong.0
