Nationwide Bank Issue

Hello Everyone
I have an issue with Nationwide and was recommended to ask on here for advice. Around about a month ago my accounts disappeared from my online banking, I sent a secure message and they said everything was fine and to fill in a lost account form.
I filled the form in and had no reply. I then raised a complaint with them directly. I raised a complaint as I suffer from awful telephone anxiety to the extend I’m not able to call anyone. I would much rather type on a forum or an email.
Anyway the complaint team come back with a very generic response saying my accounts are under review. They would not elaborate any further.
I have now received a letter with the header in top right corner saying financial crime. It says we need more information so please call us on the number from your card before 5pm. It is then sent from Fraud Analyst, Financial Crime
This has set my anxiety through the roof. Is there no way I can email them again about this ? I have googled and unable to find any reference to the letter online. I imagine it is to do with me hardly using the account other than for betting and I also had a payment for my cooker on there that was over a £1000. As I don’t use the account I transfer the money to my main bank immediately which probably looks weird ( the account is in my name)
I am now worried if I can’t reply to this someone will turn up at the door. Is it worth me emailing again or does anyone have any experience in the letter?
I don’t have any money in there and don’t care if I don’t bank with them again but I’m very worried about the content of the letter.
Sorry in advance for long post

Hello and I can appreciate that you must be under a lot of stress about this, particularly as you feel that you are unable to call them because of your anxiety about using the telephone
unfortunately it seems as though they suspect you of something. I cannot tell you what, but you need to clear it up with them
you need to call them but if you feel you are unable to then perhaps you could get somebody that you trust to call them on your behalf and and you will just have to authorise that they can talk to them on your behalf
it sounds like they are going to close your accounts because of something you have done but if everything is above board then all you have to do do is to let them know the information that they require0 -
Hi 18cc
Yeah I tried to ring them a weeks ago then just couldn’t.
I don’t mind if they close my account as I use online banks now for faster refund and instant transaction notification
I’m just worried if they send someone here to ask me or give me cifas I read this on google
Even if I do call them I would probably stutter and tremble so much I couldn’t talk anywayit’s really difficult

If you can't phone them. Then you need to go to branch to discuss the situation. They need to speak to you.
No point in googling the letter.
No one will turn up on your door, but if you do nothing they will close the account and could make it difficult for you if they contact any of your other banks with their concerns.Life in the slow lane0 -
If they suspect “financial crime” and they do apply a CIFAS marker against you then you can expect your other “online banks” to close as well.0

That’s my worry. I would suspect that it’s to do with my betting. The problem I’ve got is I’ve doing matched betting and multi accounting. Nationwide offer fast withdrawal so the second you press withdraw it’s in your account so some of the withdrawals back to the card have been in different names. (From multi account matched betting)
I then send to my main account, at the time I thought absolutely nothing of it but I’m guessing that’s it.
I worry that even if I call them they aren’t going to tell me what it is.
Appreciate everyone’s help though thankyou0 -
The only thing I can advise and I suspect the only thing that anybody on here can advise is that you try to co-operate with them fully and get things sorted out. good luck0

Thankyou. One more question
If they give me a cifas. Would it impact my father ? We have same name (first and last ) but different middle. Different birthdates obviously
So much going through my head, I’ll see if I can ring them tomorrow0 -
Have you tried to get the anxiety about using the phone sorted ?0

Yeah many a year, it comes and goes0

It's not the matched betting that's the problem, it's the multi-accounting. You simply can't use your bank account to deposit and withdraw in different names. What you have done is a complete no-no. I wish I could give you better news, but you have screwed up badly. I can't see them reopening your account and you may soon get other accounts closed. If you have money stuck at bookies and exchanges you could well kiss goodbye to that with no way of withdrawing the money and they could legitimately refuse to pay out anyway. As far as the banks will be concerned you possibly look like you're laundering money for various people even if you aren't.0
