I agree with Beanie. We never received thank yous from our nieces so we no longer bought for them. We agreed with my sister a few years ago to stop buying for each others families. Why not make this year the last?

    It's a bit complicated, it's SiL's grandchildren, so our great nephews/nieces....DH is from a huge family (he's 1 of 7)

In my haste buying presents this year, I bought double for the older kids, forgetting that I already had stuff for them. Which is why we decided next year will be the last year.

Couldn't you return the second set of presents or sell them? Ungratefulness and bad manners do not deserve to be rewarded.

You will probably think I'm an awfully hard woman (I am) but 2 further things spring to mind. If SIL doesn't buy any gifts for your family, the least she could do is pick them up from you thus saving you travel costs. The second is that personally, I would make some sort of excuse eg car is out of action and that under the circumstances, I am donating the presents to the Salvation Army to distribute to children who would not otherwise get any.
  • Haha Pollie, I love that lol. I think they would definitely learn some manners if you did that lol.

  • Families are always problematic in one way or another imho.
The bigger the family , the bigger the problem .
I always got my nieces and nephews presents , but about 5 years or so I was told by one of my sisters that I don't need to do it now so I don't
They always said thank you , but they are in their mid - late /20s now with their own kids . The most I got in terms of presents from them was on the cards that were written by my sisters " from sister and nephew" etc. Different Values these days :rotfl:

Lots to say about in-laws and outlaws but I'll leave it there .:D

As I said it's complicated. DH is 1 of 7. All the siblings have children and grandchildren apart from DH and his brother. This SiL has children and grandchildren, we don't buy for their children (nieces/nephews they're 30+ to 40+ years) but have bought for their kids (great nieces/nephews). It's SiL's kids that we don't get any acknowledgment from for the gifts for their kids or gifts for our two.

This SiL does buy for our two.

We do make the trip every year as MiL lives that way and is 90. SiL has a variety of health problems which mean she can't travel anyway.
