To be honest Joe I've completely forgotten what were discussing in this thread.8kW (4kW WNW, 4kW SSE) 6kW inverter. 6.5kWh battery.0

Cackle.:D
There have certainly been some confusing posts by some people..
I'm probably atypical on this thread: I didn't learn to drive until I was 28, never had anything like a new car, find lots of other things more exciting (deep off-piste powder anyone?) and find talk about acceleration for road cars something that should be fairly irrelevant and perhaps better discussed at track days. Never had PCP and don't intend to (other than as a short term tool) and as I retired (-ish) at 50 lower income means I'm a bit cautious.
But I am looking into having an EV as my next vehicle, and possibly trying one out over a short period of a few months. I've looked at my pattern of usage and how I would charge the vehicle and it is all perfectly feasible. There might be the odd compromise and more planning but being such a late starter I still have more appreciation of the mobility cars offer than those who started young and soon became blase. Current car 10 years old so I'm looking at developments in the new car market with hopes for a couple of years down the line.
It will be interesting to see what happens to depreciation for EVs in the future: for ICEs it has always helped buyers like me. I saw a comment on one of the EV boards that their lease costs over a few years were less than the depreciation costs. Does _anybody_ have any idea what is going to happen?!
Today 5.58kWh went in to my immersion from spare PV power, so that's a plus point in my favour.
Anyway, as ABrass said, to paraphrase: this is a rambling thread...:D0 -

Guilty as charged, hanging my head in shame.....
Oh hang on a second - the thread is called BEVs deals and information. My comments might not have come under the "BEVs deal" heading, but it was certainly "information" - there's nothing to say the information had to be about BEVs. Can I avoid punishment on a technicality
btw - have you signed up for EVEZY, do you know what the waiting times are?0 -
Things you have to remember about cars in the US.
No need to remember as I posted it:Martyn1981 wrote: »Note - these are American figures, average mileage, energy mix, US galls etc.. Also remember these are about CO2 emissions, and we should consider the other emissions from ICE's, and the fact they are 'distributed' locally.Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

Its bloody interesting though!
Certainly got me thinking and heres one for you all, not related, but sort of.
Ive mentioned before Ive bought 2 new cars in my life, 2000 and 2007....
In 2000 I was working in data comms software and earning more money than I could spend just before that industry went bang. By the time the loan on the car had been paid I was laid off... Bit of a coincidence I felt the confidence to buy a new car just before it all went bang.
In 2007 Id just had my best year as a sole trader, paid off my initial business investment loans and had enough left over to buy a new car for the business... well we all know how that went. Bit of a coincidence....
Been looking at a new car this year as had the best year since 2007.... .. I now dont believe in coincidences...
Im no fan of James Dyson, quite the opposite in fact, and not really surprised about him not being able to make money from electric cars. As much as Ive changed my mind about Tesla, they still have a ropey 9 months coming up to get through.
My concern is that any downturn would possible derail EV development or end up with it being scrapped for a long time.
Considering my long term plans for at least one of my ICE vehicles is to convert it to EV with old Tesla/whatever parts in 3-5 years that might go to the wall as well. (both my cars have already been done on youtube although god knows what the MOT people would make of them, or if the DVLA have even given it any thought). No chance with the camper, waiting on diesel/lpg conversion to come down the pipe or replace with petrol engine and convert that.0 -

Got to rent the battery but I think that gets you a brand new battery some point down the line
Break even is probably around the 9-10k miles per year mark
If you do 30,000 miles a year and a small car is okay for you then this type of deal is probably not a bad idea

That’s the closest I can get to a car that fits my needs as a runabout. No Apple CarPlay though so that is a deal breaker. Some people might think that’s a stupidly trivial reason but not for me. My wife who is not a confident driver or tech user has used my Golf for a couple of 100 mile trips this week and loved having CarPlay for the navigation apps and for sending and receiving messages hands free en route.
I don’t think Tesla do CarPlay either.Northern Lincolnshire. 7.8 kWp system, (4.2 kw west facing panels , 3.6 kw east facing), Solis inverters, Solar IBoost water heater, Mitsubishi SRK35ZS-S and SRK20ZS-S Wall Mounted Inverter Heat Pumps, ex Nissan Leaf owner)0 -

No, not yet, probably time it for the spring after my skiing holiday and when PV picks up too. But..
No idea on timings, and that's a question asked a lot on the discussion thread on EVEZY on the SpeakEV forum: worth a look. I'll obviously be going for the cheapest option!0 -
75 miles in five minutes is the Tesla super charger
You don't need 75 miles you only need to get home
Er, you're the one that mentioned 75 miles. One thing we can say for sure is that batter tech of 2029 is going to be better than that of 2019
Charge rates will increase
Chargers will get cheaper
Chargers will get more common
What is a high end $50k Tesla in 2019 might be a medium spec ford $25k in 2029 as far as batteries go
You're speculating, and that's fine. But you mentioned a 100 mile range, 20kWh car, and I mentioned that would be very difficult. In response to that, you just tell me batteries will get bigger and cheaper. We all know that.3. By and large no equivalent of MOT so cars can run to their natural life which they dont here so using natural life figures in US calculations makes sense which it doesnt here.
If 'Natural life' means MOT failures driving around on the roads, no thanks. MOT is a very low standard for a car to pass. With the exception of some daft new electrical rules.£14,000 Zoe BEV

Says 'New' but it's important to note it's about to be replaced. And you don't necessarily get a 'brand new battery' at some point, it may be a refurbished one. It happens if your own goes down to 75%, but there's not much info about the practicalities because, wait for it, it hasn't happened. There have been faulty batteries, sure, but I'm not aware of any pure degredation. That’s the closest I can get to a car that fits my needs as a runabout. What an absolute laugh! You do get Android Auto BTW. And you don't need Car Play for voice commands IIRC, that'll work via Bluetooth.0
