Well done Sirens you've seem to have found your dieting mojo :T:T

I don't like milk added to soup but I've added coconut milk to soup before the T*sco 'nanny's magic soup?' is finished with it and the reduced fat one works as well as the usual one and I make chicken laksa

it was a beautiful day so we went to a local listed garden, and walked five miles around their lakes and gardens. No deer in the deer park but lots of wallabies in their enclosure, they have a lot of white ones in their collection :). It's only 10 mins drive away and recently reopened after 9 years so I'm thinking of getting a annual pass next year as it is only the price of 5 visits and lovely autumn colours at the moment, they were known for their azaleas and rhododendrons in April and May and the new owners have restored 7 years of neglect :)

We had lunch in their cafe but I avoided the desserts, my sisters both had pie and I stole a bite from both of them, to be honest they weren't the greatest of pies so I was glad I was being virtuous :D

    B -
L - Brie, bacon and cranberry toasted sandwich, 2 bites of pie
D - chicken salad, glass of red wine
    S - grapes

I was amazed at the number of children trick and treating when I put my bin out as I live in a quiet Close, they were all excitingly looking for houses with pumpkins and not one knock at my door as I don't have one. I think the local schools drill in to them not to knock if no pumpkin outside

Well done Brambling on resisting temptation :T

Unfortunately another pumpkin bun found it's way to my mouth plus a couple of marshmallows!
However no more the marshmallows are all gone and the last of the buns stored away for the kids.
Off to the dr to check dh blood pressure, hoping the tablets are doing their job, he has been eating very carefully too.
Afterward might walk up to L@dl as I need a couple of bits.
    Tomorrow's food should be
    B fruit and yog
    L salad sandwich
D pork chops in and apple sauce and mash, plenty of veg.

  • Evening everyone. :)

I havent read back yet. Just reporting a great big fat STAY THE SAME!!! for this week. :o

    Food today

    All bran

    Chips, minced beef, green beans.

Liver pate with salad and roll.

    Toffee apple.
  • Hiya! :)

molly41 thanks for bringing back lovely memories. I had my son at home and was supported by a superb midwife. Best day (night!!) of my life.

bluedoggy interesting thoughts about faith and fasting. Thanks for sharing them. I did enjoy your bake, very much, and still have enough ingredients for another one.

brambling well done on your STS. :j Your deer park without the deer sounds lovely, and it's great to support people who are working so hard in restoring somewhere. We have a lovely NT park here and I go ever such a lot - getting my money's worth out of the membership for sure. I went yesterday to get a soul-full of the autumn trees, the beeches could not have been finer.

sirens well done on your 2lb loss. :j Hope everything was ok with the blood pressure check. Your batch cook sounds delicious and efficient!

frugalLina stewed plums... to keep things moving! I've always stewed ripen at home plums on the delivery day, with a tiny bit of brown sugar and a little shake of cinnamon. That's because they dont seem to ripen at my house... they go from 'rock hard' to 'hard and wrinkly' to 'mush and mould' seemingly without an edible phase. But I do like them stewed so that's ok.

honeythewitch STS is good when you compare the options! Well done!! :j

izadora just my opinion but I'm in favour of keeping limbs... generally speaking!! :D

I had to generate a Halloween themed story for class. I decided not to write a scary one but a little memoir of the Halloween parties we had as kids. It was nice to sit and remember all the prepping, esp making the invites and decorations. (I'm 52 so Halloween wasnt such a 'thing' in the 70's) I was trying to remember carving pumpkins and kept thinking that it was really difficult. Then I realised they were actually turnips or swedes. I messaged Mum to ask her which. She promptly replied "whichever is hardest" :rotfl:

Quiet day today, the only mission is to get my sons passport renewal underway while he's here.

    Food declaration
Beef/mushroom stroganoff for tea, cabbage and jackets.
    Stewed apples with custard

Have a good day everyone, despite the drippy weather. :o
A bit of grin and bear it, a bit of come and share it
You're welcome we can spare it, yellow socks
  • Izadora, don't chop off a limb!

BlueDoggy, good luck with the 5:2, the first week is the hardest, I feel and then you get into the swing of it.

Brambling, I am glad that the reduced fat coconut milk is as good as the full fat, I shall stock up on that, because it is delicious in soups and curries. :T

How lovely to see white wallabies and well done on avoiding the desserts and pies!

Sirens, I hope DH's blood pressure has gone down.

Honeythewitch, a STS is better than a gain and you may have a good loss next week to make up for it.

I shall definitely get some plums in, tighteningthebelt, they sound delicious and I do have some Alpro custard in my cupboard, so that will be a lovely treat instead of my Nakd bars.

I was a child of the 60s and Halloween parties were rather rare and very traditional, seeming to involve mostly apples and impossible ways to eat them. We didn't carve anything, nor dress up, nor knock on people's doors. After the Moors murders, parents were very protective of their children, which lasted a long time.

When I lived in Scotland (from the 80s on), the children would go around a-guising, where they would dress up and perform little skits or recite poetry, it was really good and they earned their treats.

Anyway, I had over 20 kids at my door, it was such fun! 3 girls did a poem together and one boy complained that he'd had too many Haribo sweets.

Sadly in a town nearby, someone had been putting medicines in with the sweets, including Gabapentin. I can't understand the mentality of some people.

Anyhoo, the pumpkin had started do develop mould, so it will be chopped up for the compost heap and my witch's hat will be put away for another year.

Note to self: buy more interesting sweets for the kids next year. :rotfl:

Brambling Your walk sounds lovely, even if the deer were hiding away, and very well done for resisting pie. We found the same thing last year with kids not knocking because we hadn't put a pumpkin out. We put one out this year and were up and down like yo-yos :D

Sirens I hope all went well with your husband's blood pressure check

Honey Well done on the STS. I know that you would've preferred a loss but not gaining is still a win.

Tighteningthebelt I can't believe your mum used to give you swedes or turnips to carve  I don't remember ever going trick or treating as a kid but my mum did used to do parties and we'd have bobbing apples in a dustbin :D

You'll be pleased to know that I didn't resort to removing any limbs (any that I could do without don't weigh enough... :rotfl:) and have accepted the +1lb gain this week.

I'm really annoyed with myself for not managing to stick to a healthy eating plan at all but grateful that I didn't do as much damage as I feared. I've got another busy weekend of things which involve eating or drinking, am off work on Monday and am also out mid-week for dinner and drinks with a friend so hopefully I'll be able to work round things and not over-eat. It's probably a good week to start trying 5:2, as massively cutting my calories a couple of days may go some way to offsetting the days I'm out.

Have a good weekend everyone xx
  • Sorry about the gain, Izadora, I am glad it wasn't too much and I hope you can manage to lose it by next week. Looks like a lot of socialising for you, which will bring food challenges. Don't give up though, you can do this!

We used to carve Swedes too. (I am 59) because pumpkins barely existed.
Halloween consisted of the turnips, duck apple, and peeling oranges or apples in one cut, and deciphering the letter of your future husband or wife's name from the shape the peel made as it fell.
We also brushed our hair looking in the mirror at midnight, and an image of your future partner would appear if you were lucky and a ghost would snatch you away if not. :rotfl:

We would make a stew from the discarded bits of turnip, and this would be eaten with beetroot in the dark, and drank home made ginger beer, so it was a bit of a healthy food festival really.

Trick or treat wasnt part of it, and I dont remember any sweets.

    :)

The turnips stayed fresh much longer than the pumpkins, and carving them was a bit of an event. It was impossible to do anything much more fancy than a basic face on them, although I did once manage to turn a chopped off nose into a bat shape. :D

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
