    Evening all :)

Well done Sirens that's a great lost this week :T:T

I lost another 2.5lb this week which seems to be my number at the moment which is good when it's going down :).

Honey I have a food flask with a large opening, I don't think it's keeps food hot quite as long as a drinks flask but used to do until lunchtime, my current job has a microwave so I don't use it. I think it was Robert D but I've had it about ten years

FrugalLina I didn't need to know Peanut butter powder tastes good in porridge, I have limited willpower :D

Molly great news that the trousers are a little big, but just remember not to do too much these things take a while to heal especially abdominal surgery. When I only had keyhole for my gallbladder I was told to take it easy for 3 months especially lifting.

Blue Doggy is it low blood sugar which gives you the wobbles? Just as well you were somewhere you could grab food :)

Izadora i watched and enjoyed the Romeo & Juliet last night :) although I'm not sure I would go watch it again like I would his Swan Lake

I stocked up on fruit today for snacking at work, nothing fancy just apples, oranges, pears, bananas and some blueberries for breakfast certainly heavier and more expensive than biscuits

B - banana, nectarine, Orange and blueberries
L - coronation chicken mixed with cold pasta, spinach salad
D - spicy quorn fillets in a flat bread with raw spinach
S - grapes, pack of crisps

    Well done Brambling!!! :T :D

    Hello x
Just thought id let you know that Dumpling is still fighting on so wish her a good recovery x
I have been taking it more easy this week. Looking forward to Halloween - we decorate a bit and always have lots of little children trick or treating they always so polite but have to keep away from sweeties:eek:
Hope you all have a positive day x
    Kind Regards x
    Great news about Dumpling. :)

Well done, Sirens, that is really good! Sounds like you have a fun weekend ahead of you. :T

tighteningthebelt, that's it - I want to make some onion soup now. :rotfl:

BlueDoggy, getting the weak and wobblies is what prompted me to get my act together and begin this diet, I haven't had them since.

Mmmm, chocolate covered marzipan, I think I know the one you can get in Lidl, it is lovely! Sadly (or not) I no longer have a Lidl near me, phew. :o

Honeythewitch, how handy that you had some food with you while you were stuck. I used to have a wider-necked flask, they are available, but I don't know where. That one would be good for soup, though.

Yay for a 2.5 loss, Brambling, that is really great! :T

Yeah, it doesn't seem fair that healthy snacks are so much more expensive than biscuits and the like, grrr. I always blink rapidly when I see the price of an orange or a pear these days.

Today is a fast day and I plan to keep busy. Off to town with my DiL for some shopping in the drizzle shortly.

Edited to Add: Thanks Molly41 for keeping us updated about Dumpling - I hope she continues to improve. I love having kids knocking at Halloween, so I too put out some decorations just so they know my house is OK to call at. I also keep a witch hat by the door ready to pop on quickly. The sweets are going to be a temptation, aren't they?

Oooh I do love a Lidl Marzipan bar. i dont think I can be trusted with them though. :o

It is annoying when people say that fruit and vegetables are dirt cheap. It certainly doesn't feel like, and even if they were, you still have to buy the bits and bobs to go with them.

I think the cheap own brand biscuits from supermarkets are the most calories for the cheapest price, so it seems the smartest thing to eat if you are desperately hard up, yet people are often criticised for it.

It is weigh in day and I have FINALLY lost TWO AND A HALF POUNDS! :D:D:D

    Todays food.

    Coffee with cream.

Banana in the swimming pool cafe. I demand a medal for choosing it over the lemon drizzle. ;)

Liver, bacon mash vegetables. Flapjack. Grapes.
  • honeythewitch congratulations!!! And yes, have a medal for swerving the cake. :)
sirens that is a worry, hope his blood pressure comes down quickly.
A bit of grin and bear it, a bit of come and share it

  • Good evening, everyone :) .

Many congratulations to SIRENS, Brambling, and honeythewitch that’s some splendid weight loss :T:beer::T:beer::T:beer: .

SIRENS I hope your DH gets back in balance soon, what a worry.

honeythewitch, Izadora, FrugalLina like you, I’m a marzipan fan, daren’t have it in the house, and am only collecting some now for Christmas (I have a Christmas goodies store in a wonky drawer in a piece of furniture in the little bedroom - maximum difficulty to raid giving plenty of time to rethink).

tighteningthebelt ooh, I hope you enjoy the bake! It’s one of my go-to recipes. Bon appetit!

Brambling I’ve been enjoying reading about your cultural outings, they sound really lovely.

Molly41 I’m glad you’re getting your strength back. Thank you for the update on dumpling, I hope she’ll make a good recovery.

Thank you everyone for your kind words. I don’t know what causes my “weak & wobblies”, nothing has ever shown up on health tests, and when I’ve mentioned it to the doc she’s not had any idea about it. When it happens I’ve learned to manage it, but it does leave me very tired.

    Anyway, Nosh of the Day:
    B: plain porridge
L: rooty soup with two slices of German rye bread and a m’wave baked apple
D: tomato salad, lambs heart casserole, aubergine, cabbage & butternut squash, cinnamon yogurt

  • Thanks Izadora, I have also learnt of another place to visit on my bike if the rain ever stops, I am very fortunate that there is so much in this area and having many places to visit will encourage the exercise regime, such as it is.

Tighteningthebelt, the whole family is going pumpkin picking and carving at the weekend, so my place is going to look the part. I didn't mention, I am not really a fan of Halloween, but I do enjoy meeting the kids who are having a fun time.

Keep dry - tomorrow looks horrible (as does Saturday  )!

Sirens, I had some lovely onion soup in France when I was on holiday, it seemed so creamy that I had to question them as to their vegan claims, but they assured me that it was. I wish I now had the recipe as I would love to replicate it, but a search has turned up this that looks promising. It is lighter in colour that traditional French onion soup as the onions aren't caremalised in this recipe.

Fingers crossed your hubby gets his blood pressure down asap.

Well done, Honeythewitch, that is a great loss this week! Woo-hoo! Also, well done on not having the lemon drizzle cake. :T

Today was a fun day, my sister came too and a lot of window shopping was done. We all had a lovely coffee and no cake was consumed (by any of us)! I am a bit tired out now though, so an early night for me, tonight.

  • BlueDoggy, I told my sister about your bake and she is going to try it too - you have started a bit of a trend!

Even a wonky drawer on top of a wobbly ladder, guarded by very slathery angry-looking dogs wouldn't deter me from raiding a drawer full of Christmas goodies. :rotfl:

:T:T well done Honey, 2.5lb is a good number :D. You've more willpower than me, lemon drizzle cake is my favourite and my nephew makes the best one :)

Sirens at least now it's been picked up your DH knows what he's dealing with and you can do what you can to manage it

Molly thanks for the update on Dumpling :). Dumpling if you're reading this keep fighting

The onion soup recipe looks good FrugalLina and can be tweaked to reduce the amount of oil, although i would have to be cut the recipe at least in half :D. I'm always on the look out for new soup ideas

I decided this year if I wanted to go and see something to just go, I've never been one to go on my own before but had one of those moments and wondered why not? I do go to things with various people but things like the ballet I've gone on my own :). This Saturday it's another opera showing from NY with my ex neighbour. I do enjoy the live screenings :). And let's be honest if I'm doing that I'm not raiding the cupboard for snacks. This month there has been a lot I've wanted to go and see :) it's all come at once

Works been busy but all we seemed to do today was talk and not resolve anything with just time to grab soup for lunch and i didn't leave until after 6. At least I'm off next week :D one of my sisters is coming up for a few days Wednesday and I have too much holiday left and not enough year  she tells me she's trying to lose weight so I've told her no cheese or chocolate and slimline tonic in the G&Ts

B - porridge, banana and blueberries
L- lentil, sweet potato and pepper soup, crackers
D - boiled eggs and soldiers
S - fibre one brownie, pear, apple, packet of crisps

  • Brambling, I am going to try the soup recipe over the weekend, I have read you can use grape juice instead of the Marsala wine, so I will try that and I shall not use the olive oil to saute the onions, I will soften them in the microwave. I am not sure about adding the coconut milk, so will taste test the soup first and add the coconut milk if I feel the recipe needs it.

How nice that you have a week off and that your sister is visiting. I agree about the diet advice and it will be helpful if you are both on plan too.

  • Hi
Nosh of the day (as Blue Doggy calls it :) )
    Boiled egg. Strawberries.
I've got some butternut and chick pea curry and rice out of the freezer so that'll do me today and tomorrow. Cabbage. Mange tous.
Stewed plums with spoonful ff yogurt.
Close your eyes all veggies and vegans while I say I'm craving red meat. Very much. I'll see if I can hold off til delivery day!!

Morning All (well, it was when I started typing this. Pesky work... :D)

Tighteningthebelt I'm really not cultured at all, one of the last films I saw at the cinema was Fast & Furious Hobbs & Shaw, and I think that excitement at finding a scone in the freezer is entirely appropriate.

Sirens I hope that your husband's blood pressure comes down soon

Honey Yay, you got there in the end, well done on the loss :T
Congratulations for resisting the lemon drizzle as well, it's definitely worth a medal, I wish I could say the same but it's a colleague's birthday so I had some for breakfast

Blue Doggy It's strange that they don't know what causes it but hopefully they're few and far between and you're recovering from the tiredness.

Frugalina It's good that you've got plenty of places to explore, it definitely makes getting out and about easier. Seeing as I live about a 20 minute walk from the seafront I don't really know what my excuse is for not going for long walks :o

Brambling I generally hate going to things on my own but the cinema's one that I'm fine with. I figure that it's not like I'd be talking to anyone while I'm in there anyway so it doesn't make that much difference. It probably helps that I've got one a 5 minute walk away though.

Enjoy your week off and hopefully you and your sister can encourage each other.

I was a bit scared about weighing myself this morning but decided that I'd rather know what the damage was and I'm very glad I did as I managed a STS this week. I know that technically it's not great that I'm still the same weight as at the start of the challenge but, with how I've felt recently, I'm taking not having put any on as a win :D
