Hi lynzpower, Heathrow is a bit of a mission for me I am afraid especially if its only retail. WIll cost me so much in petrol and will then need another car. But yes anything would be better that dealing with chip fat.

Congrats on the bank charges. We also had around £3k refunded and that is how we have been managing to survive and extras like birthdays etc. and running of car (before we sold it).

I am in the process of trying to obtain a refund on a loan though and will keep you updated on the process of that. First letter gone out to them and see what they have to say re PPI and other charges.

Thanks for your advice, it is much appreciated.

    All the best.

  • kimmie you should really go on the old style board for ideas to reduce your food budget more. (i'm not saying 25 pound a week is the norm but just what some posters have been able to do). do a post over there asking for help - some people post their usual shops and get loads of suggestions for cheaper alternatives or ways to make the budget go further. also try posting the contents of your cupboards / freezer & fridge - you will be amazed at the meal ideas.

by cutting your budget by 100 pounds a month you are doing brill - but perhaps it could be squeezed further?

just realised you said cutting your food budget to 200 could not be done again - please checkout the moneysaving oldstyle board as it will save you money!

    Hi Kim
Just read through your thread......very inspirational!

Someone else may already have mentioned this, but couldn't see it anywhere. You are having a lot of your wages 'swallowed up' by the bank for charges. Try to open a seperate bank account with another bank (one you don't have any debt with) and have your wages paid direct into that instead. Bank charges can then take their rightful place at the very bottom of your 'to pay' list. After all, you will be claiming them back anyway, so their refund can pay it later!

Hi guys. Thanks Chardonnay I will check out the board. Always open to ideas! The change of bank account is a good idea and I have started the ball in motion, although our credit is not good and the only account I can get is a basic one which is fine (that is what I have now), but could not get it set up in time to miss these charges.

Thanks lynzpower. That is a great idea and I will check out that site tonight. Thanks.

Had quite an easy day (if there is one at KFC at christmas time). But dreading tomorrow. Have to work 5-12.30. Then start at 10am on Wed. Was told today you can not stand still even if you have no customers. You have to keep yourself moving by finding things to do. Keeping me fit (need it), if nothing else. Just keep thinking of the pay packet at the end of the week!

All the best guys. Thanks as ever for all the useful advice and if your thinking of KFC for a job ask me first for info. mmmmmmmmmmmmm......................

Having my first day off since last sunday. Worked till 12.30 last night and I am so tired. Everyone in the world wants KFC (don't know why!!!!!).

Had some really crappy jobs last few days. Why the cooks can't wash up the deep fat fryers is beyond me. But when I complained about doing all the washing up at 10am I was told that we all have to do everything. Including putting the food on to cook as well, but we have not been told how to use them and I am sure if challenged helath and safety issues here.

So we have been given a 4 min time window where u are expected to take the order and in most cases make the burgers yourself and put the fries in those bloody awful little packets then pack it all and give it to the customers. How can this be expected when last night we had to wait 20mins for chicken to cook.(twice). Try telling customers in a fast food restaurant that they have to wait that long for a takeaway.! Joke.

Anyway - going shopping today with vouchers hubby gets each month for shopping vouchers so will make that my weekly food bill. Other than that at least my wages is paying for kids to get to school and help with some of the bills.

I am looking for a different job, but know I have to stick this till after christmas.

    Thanks guys.
  • Kimmie - you have my utmost respect for what you are doing, you are fantastic, I know it is of no solace to you at the moment but what an amzing example you are setting for your children. I do hope that hubby is being supportive, did hear about those other jobs?

    Hi SF

Thanks for your words of support, they do keep me going. Yes, hubby has been great, as have the kids. They are all having to do some extra work in the home and hubby is acting as my taxi service:T .

He does not think anything came of the other jobs as he has not heard anything, however he has an interview this week also. So fingers crossed and just keep going.

I have not heard anything from the airport and will prob have to wait now to at least the new year before ringing them. Have to say the agency are not the best to deal with.

Keeping my eyes out now though for anything else that may be around. Would be great to leave after christmas and start another one.

One of the girls at KFC works for sainsburys and will keep an eye out for me if they are still looking after christmas as they obviously took a lot of staff on for this period.

I took over £800 pounds on my till Friday night alone in my till between 5 and 12.30. I was only 1p out at the end of the night, so pleased with myself for that. Just proves to me that I am better than a job like this, but little things like this keep me going.

Christmas shopping is just starting now that I have a few pounds here and there. So taking it slowly and buying as and when I can. I went to Asda today and bought some lovely christmas tree decs. Got a bargain. Gold balls, tinsel, cherubs and stars all for £8.

How is your christmas shopping going? Are you staying at home or going away?

My mother inlaw is in hospital and we are not sure what we are going to do yet as she refuses to go to her daughters. So we need to find out if she wants to come here or stay at the hospital as she is quite set in her ways!

    All the best.

Merry christmas Guys! Well I made it past christmas. went back to work today, to a sink full of washing up that had been sitting in cold water for 2 days and stunk. Had the wonderful job of washing the disgusting fryers etc. Made myself a promise to get into town tomorrow and start looking for another job now christmas is out of the way. I have worked a lot of hours for not much money, but it has paid for all the christmas presents and food and we are not in any further debt, so a positive move.

Had my mother in law for 3 days as she wanted to come to us. It was hard work as she has mild dementia and is very forgetful. But was pleased that at least she was not in hospital for christmas. Hubby took her back today.

I am rotared to work New years eve, until 8.30 when they close. Then have to work New Years Day from 10am. Then they have the cheek to moan that not everyone is taking on double shifts. (As if!)..

Happy New Years to everyone and may it be a prosperous one for all. Bless you all.

    All the best.

Great work you are doing there kimmie. Well done. I hope that you can get yourself something more challenging now. But well done for sticking with it. I think you have a particularly bad KFC. Maybe when you leave you can tip off the local environmental health people, they would have a field day in there, especially if the floors are dirty, that is a big no no
