Hi. tigtag - your right. Got the job - they called last night and offered £5.52 as you rightly said. starting tomorrow 10-6pm. get half hour break, standing all day.. So I am going in totally open minded. Will let you know tomorrow how it goes (if im not too tired). Just glad to be able to contribute again.

    Thanks again guys. chat tomorrow.

Well done you. You are bringing in some much needed income and its nice to see someone just go out there and do whatever is needed to support there family. I did actually reply to your SOA the other day but because I didnt tick the box that says remember me when you sign in it didnt allow me to post. It was so long winded and took me ages to write and I think it only allows you a certain amount of time to do it. Others gave you sound advice anyway and you seem to be getting yourself sorted. Good luck tomoz.

  • well done on the job! Most fun job I ever had was washing dishes for min wage...those were the days! You may be surprised & enjoy it! Well done so far & keep up the good work!
Re sky...I hung onto my cable for dear life for over a year & eventually caved & went fr the freeview option which still gave extra chanels! Wish I'd done it ages ago! Took a while to get used to but its great to have that extra money in the account & know that I am absolutely doing my best! Plus if you ring them they may agree to a reduced package & better deal anyway! Worth a try!

Well guys back again. Thanks for all the great advice. Yes the job is the pits! Its like being treated like a teenager again with a witch of a boss watching you like a hawk. Almost told them where to stick it today after they tried to tell me the till was down and they were going to deduct it from the wages. First I had been told I said. They even got two sheets of paper out and asked myself and the girl training me to sign to say that we would accept half of the amount each to be deducted from our wage packet. Needless to say I told themI was not signing and it turned out later they had made a mistake and it balanced. Not happy. Going to get hit by emergency tax this week so wont be getting much out of that. They told me they can't promist to let me have christmas off either which not happy about as I have a family. Needless to say I do not think much of KFC at the moment. However I will go in tomorrow and pound away again with 8 hours of standing!

Well thanks for the support, it has been a struggle to hold my sanity. It really shows why staff are the way they are in these kind of establishments. I honestly feel after being there for a week now, that if they raised the salary slighlty they would get staff that actually gave a damn. You have to do everything there. They have no cleaners, so you have to clean the toilets (and what some people have done in there astonishes me ). You have to clean all the fryers and grills (whilst sliding over a greasy floor covered in fat).

You are expected to pick up from people when they get up and leave and their half eaten food all over the floor and tables. You get a half hour break regardless of length of shift (6/8). If you do a double of at least 10 12 hours you get 30 mins first shift and 15 mins the second. You have to stand the whole time. What a joke. But hey they do feed you! (but not ice creams or milk shakes, or bottled water, or juice).

Then they think you are comitted to a wage of £5.52 if your lucky enough to be over 18.

I am sticking it for the moment - but still appplying for the job of my dream. Several months ago I applied at the airport. I have always worked in travel previously and this was my ambition to work for an airline. In September I went for my assessment day and tests. I was told I passed (9 out of 15 passed). I was told a second assessment day is then required. But this has been shelved till at least after christmas now. So I am in a position of waiting now.

Hubby went for an interview yesterday and has another to be arranged so hopefully if he gets one of these it would make a huge world of difference.

Currently have somebody working on reducing our outgoings by looking into a loan that may be unenforceable. But this is costing us £465 per month which is criminal with our outgoings at the moment. Watch this space for an update. First letters due to go out to them any day from the legal company fighting my corner.

Well that is my update. Have a day off today, so intend to relax and chill, although a bit annoyed as a refund is due to us from 2 companies and it has not gone through - so no christmas shopping it would seem yet. The troubling this is that with the wretched bank charging us £190 this month on charges alone I am now overdrawn and have asked for a refund under hardship claim as this was our food allowance. If I get paid on friday and this is not cleared my wages will be swallowed up completely and I will have nothing.

So going to hassle the bank and see where it gets me!

All the best and thanks for all the support, much appreciated.

    kim
  • Well done you - I know it is a horrid job but it will make a difference. You are right if they valued their staff more then their staff would value their jobs!! Fingers crossed for the airline job and hope it comes to fruition in the new year.

I hope the peeps in Northampton are behaving themselves, if not give me a ring.

    Big hugs

    SFx

Just want to say Kimmie, well done for taking on the job and working at your debt! What you are doing is admirable, and you are setting the most amazing example for your kids too.

    Well done.

Hi Kim. I really feel for you hating the job you are doing I have had some awful jobs, potato picking for an agency who took most of my money so I ended up with £2.60 an hour for 14 hours shift was the best!!!
Anyway I just wanted to add I currently work for Tesco's, I work 11 hours a week Friday 6pm until midnight and 1.30pm-7.15pm on a Saturday. You sit or stand (checkouts) the choice is yours, people are great better pay (take home £300 a month) lots of people to do shift swaps with if you need time off.
I am a psychology graduate so it is not really the type of work I dreamed of doing but I am enjoying it and with a 2 year old DD and OH who works 57 hours a week I had to get what fitted around them.

    Good luck with everything x

Hi Kimmie - absolutely 100% well done. a feeling of pride should get you through the !!!!!! job because you are sacrificing for your family. that is the sign of a strong woman and a great mother!

a small point about the sky - i called to "cancel" and got the price of my package reduced from £65 a month to £17. we kept our multiroom box and after 2 weeks it went to freesat so we get all the freeview channels for nothing upstairs, we get most channels but not movies and sports ( i think this is what really bumps it up), and we get free sky plus. we know rent a movie a week (our weekend treat) - once you've exhausted the free trials on offer (using quidco for cahback!), easy cinema is great as it costs £2 per rental. That or the local library!! we dont feel any worse off and spend about £25 per month instead of £65. Even if you throw in a couple of pints at the pub whilst watching a match you'd still be £20 -£30 a month better off. doesnt sound much but £360 a year!

    good luck and well done!
