Thanks guys, I look forward to receiving your posts of an evening or whenever I can. Worked Wed/thur/Fri/sat last week and this week will be mon/tue/thu/fri/sat/ mostly 10-6 or 5-11. The 5-11 is a bit of a killer as I miss the kids all evening and they are in bed when I get home. They told me that I will have to do the shift that ends at 12.30 as well. Found out we have christmas day off and boxing day so I have asked for christmas eve as have family staying. But the wicked witch of the west did not look or sound too bothered, saying "can't promise anything".

Went to work on Tuesday after the crap day monday and was told to wash all the racks and fryers. Bloody hell, I could have bathed in the size of the sink. It was disgusting. Then clean the toilets and then the usual jobs. Think she may have been getting back at me for me slagging off the training.

This is the worst part, not choosing or having any control over my days or hours and missing the kids.

Hubby hopes to get feedback tomorrow on his interview and fingers and legs crossed.

I am going to have all my wages swallowed up this week from the bank charges, even though I have asked for a refund I am still waiting to hear from them. Really cannot afford this - as you know.

SF - I am sending you me email for the details.

Thanks guys. speak soon. All the best. Heads up!

k1mmie - well done on getting a job - however if you hate it so much perhaps you could seriously cut down at home instead. 300 pound on food a month could be cut down - go to the money saving oldstyle board on this forum for help. (some people feed their families for 25 pound a week)

sky @ 65 pound is more than the top package - 15 a month is the basic package (perhaps your kids could give up multiroom for a few months till you are back on your feet.

4000+ is a very high salary and should be easy to get under control if you follow all the tips on here.

    Hiya!

Just caught up after a couple of weeks away, and was going to say 'congratulations' on getting the job, but perhaps it should be more like 'commiserations' - you're a far better woman than me, I'd have told them in no uncertain terms where to shove it on the first day, so you really have done brilliantly to stick at it. What an absolute bunch of a***holes.

Anyway, fantastic news that you have a bit of money coming in, and here's hoping that the airline job might come up soon. What/where is it if you don't mind me being nosey? (PM me if you prefer). I've got a few very good friends nationwide in aviation/airports, so might (or might not!) be able to offer help/advice or vacancy news depending on what you're looking for.

In the meantime, is there no possibility of a better job? Someone suggested Tesco which would be far better, or I think even McDonalds are a lot better than KFC. Or admin work through an agency? Think this way - if you can stick KFC, you can do anything! So stick it until you get another job, and you'll have so much satisfaction that you didn't let them beat you, while handing in your notice at the same time!

Good luck, keep posting and don't let the b*****ds get you down! You're better than a million evil witches!

Ive just seen this, and i wonder whether "shopping at home" needs to take place.

I find it very useful one week in four or something. It was easier to do when I bought loads of stuff indiscriminately.

Literally turn all your cupbaords inside out and inventory up what you have in. then piece meals together buying only the absolute bare minimum to get by. next week, Im fairly sure we can get away with bread & milk & veg and not a lot else. So another 20 quid for the credit card hopefully. we are away for Xmas week at the parents- they are feeding us, so theres another 30 quid saved for that week.

We did it last week, and freed up 30 quid for OHs credit card payment. Every week that we underspend on the food+household budget, we pay that off his debt.

    it does work!!

K1mmie, tell your boss you're not working Xmas eve, it's up to her to organise staffing, you have given plenty of notice.
TBH you'd be *FAR* better off working in a pizza delivery place (in the kitchen) Dominoes/Pizza Hut/Perfect Pizza/Papa Johns etc - Money will be same if not better and there won't be any public loos to clean for one! (Or big fryers)

the 30 min break will depend if you are being paid for it - usually an 8 hour shift can have a 30 min paid break or 1 hour unpaid. this will depend on your manager and how busy they are.

the trouble with starting in retail so close to xmas is you will get the crappy shifts the more permanent staff don't want, more than likely you will still be on a probation period where they can get rid of you if you don't fit in within 3 months etc. therefore if you kick up a stink about certain shifts it will give the manager an excuse to get rid of you after xmas etc.

completely agree with Chardonnay. My OH has recently got a new job in "retailing" and its a huge firm, obviously he has ended up with Christmas eve, new years eve ( a late too, till 10pm) AND new years day ( starting at 8 am)
Unfortunately, if you dont want to be out of work and skint as hell, this is what you get.

Hi guys. Well the 30 min break is unpaid and if you do a double shift (as some do - not me) you get an extra 15mins in the second half of the shift. Joke! I think you may be right, I am sure this is prob not legal.

I am reducing the food bill as much as I can (last month had hardly anything in cupboards for most of it) and spent about £200 last month, but cannot do that again - I mean the cupboard was bare.

I use the local farm shop a lot who is great for tins/jars/cans/bread etc. My local meat man has gone so am looking for the next best thing (and cheapest). Supermarkets last resort. I do shop for some bits online so I can budget the meals in advance and then only order for thos. The other month I ended up ordering 5 boxes of washing powder (by mistake ehm........) At least it was their own brand and I did not need any for about 2 months.

I am looking to work in Stansted Airport, but will have to wait till they sort out their internal vacancies.

I have tried looking for other jobs, but they are like gold dust this time of year. All the local supermarkets are not looking and one girl at KFC also works at Sainsburys and said they are cutting all their hours because everyone wants to work for extra money over christmas. So I said to her to keep an ear out for me after christmas.

I know you say that £300 is a lot Chardonnay for food, but I am afraid I disagree. With 5 adult size people in the house and a dog to feed, £75 is near on impossible to live on for food. I make all my own meals. Lasagnes, shepherds Pie, Chili, spag bol but also have to proved packed lunches for 10 meals a week.

Afraid I do not have the option of parents for christmas. My parents live abroad and my mother in law has been hosipitalized for the last 6 months due to ill health. In fact my niece and nephew will prob end up with us as their parents have split and they want to be with us so they dont have to choose.

But hey, I am not grumbling. Just been given my shifts for this week. Out of 5 days, I have 3 5-12.30pm and 2 10-6. At least they pay for the cab if you finish at 12.30. Got my first pay and the bank took £152 in bank charges. I got £134. (What the hell am I working for I ask myself).

Have had a major row with RAC as they paid a direct debit \I cancelled and havent paid it back after 2 weeks. I finally found out that in desperate cased against companies that have done this you can ask your bank for an indemnity claim. They can do it over the phone and they call the company and request them to give permission and pay you then claim it back from them. Might be worth remembering if anyone is in a tight spot for the future. They took £275.

So anyway, going to make dinner.

Have a great evening. Chat tomorrow.

    All the best.

Im fairly certain I saw loads of jobs at heathrow airport on the jobcentreplus websites. A fair amount of it was retail, but thats got to be better than hauling over a fat fryer!

MAybe that website might have something for you.

Keep positive, theres a test case on on banik charges at the moment and people are still getting claims through, I had 4k back from mine and it really saved my bacon.

If you havent had a look at the reclaiming board yet, do so, but make sure you hav some peace & quiet & time to get your head round it.
