I don’t know what age group you are in and if you have you moved away from all your friends, if so and you / they are up it for invite a few round for a cleaning party. Time flies and it divides up the work.

  • ^i don’t have any friends :/
  • Where can I get a tradesperson to look and fix my roof?

There is water coming in and one wall is damp.

Surveyor didn’t notice anything four weeks ago and also didn’t use a drone. I’m starting to think that profession is useless.
  • Personal recommendations are usually the way to but if you don't know anyone in your area, is there a local Facebook group that you could ask on? Failing that, a lot of local authorities have a variation on the "trusted trader" scheme where trades have to jump through various hoops to be included on a list of approved tradespeople.
    Whatever
  • Thanks. I just can’t see how I can sleep in the house with the carpet. I’ve hoovered five times. The place stinks of dog :( although it’s a lot better (space of a day) it still smells.

I have lots of questions and o feel overwhelmed because I just don’t know who to ask.

I also have to remember that someone else was living here, and I’ve seen worse.
I had this problem when I moved into our last rented house.the previous owners had a puppy and it just smelt of dog and a bit of wee where the puppy had peed on the carpet. I paid for the carpets to be cleaned by someone local who added a 'pet odour and disinfectant' chemical.
After I couldn't smell any of the 'animal' smell and I had a very pregnant nose and could smell anything.
if you want to be extra vigilant then go to your local pet shop and get a pet deodorising/neutralising spray and spray all over the carpets, leave to dry, then sprinkle the carpets with bicarb of soda and leave overnight, this will absorb any traces of pet smell.
I am sure all that you are feeling right now is nerves and like you say 'overwhelmed-ment' after such a huge move.
once you start to make the place your own and start decorating etc you will feel much happier I'm sure. :-)
Just a single mum, working full time, bit of a nutcase, but mostly sensible, wanting to be Mortgage free by 2035 or less!
  • OP Don't panic. If you have had rain like most of the country has had rain the last few days then you won't be the only person having water problems.

Could it possibly be gutter problems? Have you been outside whilst the rain is at its heaviest and looked at the guttering, it could be loose or filled with rubbish, both easily fixed.
If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.

    Pulp the carpet.
Everyone remembers their first time..alone in a house.
Check the local freecycle/freegle groups and facebook reuse groups, you'll soon be sorted for freebies.
Don't fret about the area, every area has its nice bits and common people.
  • I always find my tradespeople by word of mouth, or use check@trade. You can use the DIY board on here for queries, and small jobs can definitely be done yourself with help from utube.
    Debt free Feb 2021 🎉
  • I will have to make a facebook account :)

The surveyor should have seen the damp as it wasn’t present in the pictures put on the internet 3 months before (when I guess the rain wasn’t as bad). Not a lot I can do there apart from write a bad review. I wasn’t there when the survey took place but the owner was... rolls eyes.

I’m still getting dog hairs. Gross! After hoovering ten times. Cleaning the filters on my hoover etc. Ahhhhh! I’ve arranged to rent a rug doctor with my sister. Hopefully can fit in the car ok.

The smells is getting better. I’ve looked for bicard in the shops but I can’t buy in bulk. So I’ll order of amazon or check my (old) local pound shop (I know they have some).

    Slowly but surely getting there!
  • Was*.

Typo. He could/should have seen it.
