Very, very belated congratulations on the new job!! And your crochet is definitely gift-worthy! (Do I recall a purple octopus, or am I misremembering..? - which is a regular occurrence for me nowadays!)

Thank you for the crochet support. It is easy to see faults in your own work, harder to see it in others. @greent I made a jellyfish which was bee themed? I might have made an octopus, but they all kinda merge into one. I really enjoy making things, it's very relaxing.

This is my latest finished thing, I'm very pleased even if he's a bit wonky.

Will be back shortly with a year review/2024 goals.

So 2023 was good overall I think. I don't appear to have given myself goals this year but I will run through some of the highlights:

    Financial
My non-flat assets are now only a few k away from matching that of the balance I own of my flat (based on the amount I paid for it). I'm very pleased with this, it's my goal for my flat to be only 40% of my assets.

Investments and pensions are up 15k but this is only partially due to me

Salary has increased to £46k from 41k. Pension contribution is now 1% from me and 7.5% from my employer (up from the statutory minimum)

    Personal
I have had a bit of a turn around mentally in the last 2-3 months. I've always been a blue kind of person (sad, not dirty) and these last few years has been rough on me. But I'm feeling better and feeling positive.

My friends have been excellent, however I have been neglecting my friendships a bit.

    Health has been variable.

Sadly woody is now gone. The little guy was a delight but probably too much for me.

    Career
Went from perpetual senior to assistant manager.

Done some actual people managing, which is very different to training. It's a learning curve but I'm enjoying it.

    2024 goals

Trip to New Zealand is in Feb, I will need to sort out the rest of the organising in the next two weeks.

I will need to get on top of my cpd so goal is to do 2 hours each month.

I want to find out the timeline to becoming manager and what the difference between the roles are. I'm 6 months in, so I'm not sure when to bring it up.

I would have saved 8k if not for new Zealand, therefore I would like to save this amount again. This will largely go into my mortgage reduction/my uncles house goal.

I would also like to increase my investments by £50 a month.

I want to reduce my eating out at lunch times to once a week. Except for  December. December is rubbish for my industry.

Mortgage is up in September, the savings goals will be affected by this obviously. But I hope to get the best rate I can.

I would like to make my own crochet patterns. I will aim for one a quarter.

I need to complete my house painting and stuff. This will progress eventually.

Lastly, I need to up my survey game, I will aim for £25 a month. Low, but I get demotivated easily.

    MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁
  • As someone filling out their CPD requirements this evening (it resets tonight) I can only suggest you record as you go and don't be like me.

New Zealand is an exciting trip of a lifetime and I hope you have an absolutely whirlwind of an adventure there! What a thing to have to look forward to.

  • I have been qualified nearly 5 years now, it's always a mad dash this time of year, I'm certain I've done more than the amount I've recorded but like you @Merlin's_Beard I don't record as I go along. One day, I will be organised, 2023 was not this time.

NZ will actually be the first time I've ever been in a plane. 25 hours and 27 hours. I'm.. I've got some puzzle books, going to crochet flowers, a couple of books and some sleep masks.

    Thanks Ng! That's very kind!
