It is not coming across as awful because you are doing ok financially earning well due to hard work and spending some of it doing exciting things like your amazing trip with your mum. I must admit this has hit a nerve as I saw a comment on another diary recently that the person was fed up of reading less frugal style mfw dairy’s where people are buying things. We all have different earnings and circumstances and it’s a long hard slog to clear a mortgage, even more so when you are on your own and there’s no shame in still indulging in what makes you happy along the way if you can afford to, it’s not a prison sentence 😬

Yes I saw that comment .. ridiculous as noone knows what sacrifices, choices, circumstances any of us have made to now be able to spend in a way that is in line with our values and our income..  'Judge not lest you be judged ' is my view towards that person..

Enjoy this trip of a lifetime!

I use Monzo for international  travelling as you get an immediate phone alert on the £ forex on your purchases so easy to keep track and exchange rate is good.
. I also have a Transferwise card but thats for when I get paid in foreign currencies as they give you local bank accounts eg in Oz and US.

It does get stuffy on long haul and dont forget your phone charger, extra usb and the adaptor for the plane so you have a working mobile when you get there for wifi etc. I did get a sim one year  in Oz but then I had for 4 years the vodafo** max service which covers 81 countries inc US and Oz - it has become v expensive though now. Just remember to turn on the overseas charging just for the day you get there - you can then stay on WIFI unless you need it in an emergency.

I would take at least one clean tshirt and a few layers, spare socks etc , plus makeup remover and moisturisers and that spray moisturiser..

My last States trip my usb charger in the seat was broken .... so sometimes a mobile battery charger is  also useful and you can often use wifi  for free on long haul so if you dont have whats app on your phone to chat to your friends sort that out before you leave.

I would not overbook - part of the NZ vibe is to go with the flow..  - try paddle boarding and I assume see the fake  Hobbit land ;) NZ food is amazing - very fresh and clean.

    All so fun!
    DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff.    Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

Thank you lady! I honestly went with the prepaid card because my mum found it so I said yes. Over this week I'm going start to put together my stuff for packing. Mum has already lost and then found the stuff we got for her to take on the trip so we're right on course.

No plans on overbooking, so far we have only booked 2 days of full on activity, with a third one likely it's to one of the national park places but I want mum to be happy with what we do. She's very bad at making up her mind so..

Weekend has not gone quite to plan. Ive been feeling off all week, struggling to concentrate and now I've had a migraine. For some reason I woke up, decided I needed new plastic hooks to go on the plane (I do but..), drove to the hobbycraft and bought some metal hooks. I have no words.

The final nights and internal flights are booked for new Zealand though. The last must is car hire.

Just upped my investment monthly amount. I should be about £150 better off each month so have decided for now I will put £50 more to investments and £100 more to savings.

Don't know if anyone else has been watching the new gladiators. It is SO NINETIES. I love the fella who likes a nice little dance and the giant woman who is a body builder. Names are not my strong point...

I don't know who to tell this to but I've been wondering why my feet have been so cold even though I'm wearing slippers. I just realised the bottoms have disintegrated. Goodbye pink fluffy flying unicorn slippers.

Haha, made me laugh at the “Goodbye pink fluffy flying unicorn slippers”
I am boring and just wear sheepskin slippers as found them best to keep my feet warm.

Warm feet is always the goal! I'm very fortunate in that I can wear both kids shoes and adult shoes so I try all varieties until I find warm/comfy shoes.

Had an almighty migraine during the week. I think it started on Tuesday and I'm still feeling it. I had Wednesday off, went in on Thursday and couldn't understand what a colleague was saying. I really struggle with certain pitches when I have a migraine (sorry random assortment of men in the world) so I just had either keep getting him to repeat, sometimes when this happens I get someone else to translate for me but not an option this time. Thankfully didn't have to speak on the phone to any male clients, that would have been difficult!

Not long until new Zealand! It feels both unreal and nerve wrecking. Is it normal to be nervous?

Money has been bleeding out of my pockets. Both in terms of heating and in wasted food. It's so annoying! I wish migraines would like let me know in advance so I wouldn't buy as much!

I'm making an octopus. I think it's the largest thing I've made in terms of stitches but the yarn is really fine so it won't be in terms of height. I'm really enjoying it, the colour is very pleasing.

Hello from the other side of the literal world! It's something like 4am here.. but I went to sleep at about 7pm nz time. I didn't sleep on the second flight and then tried to stay awake as long as possible. I've had three little arguments with mum already. this is expected!

People are so far very nice and accommodating to us, we are just being honest and saying "we are dumb foreigners please tell me if I'm being horrible".

It's very strange to go from recently flooded and cold to beautiful weather! Bought some special suncream, was like £20, its for bad skin like mine so I think it's a good price.
