Still throwing up but not as much!
The wedding was exhausting honestly. I don't know why there was a best man or a second bridesmaid because I did everything. Including packing up the groom's things (including his pants which I never wanted to do in my life) when there was unexpected issues. The best man just whined about the money and the other bridesmaid couldn't even cope with finding a pen for the guest book. The venue was a nightmare, they messed up the rooms, my family's room didn't have a working light! It took the other bridesmaid an hour to sort her room which still wasn't right. The wedding coordinator disappeared so this poor woman had to step in the best she could. The food wasn't necessarily right, the bar area flooded and not all the suits arrived. I did a lot of running about and I ache everywhere!
I did however give my speech and it was really strange because I have no idea what the reaction to it was. Ha!
Also my hair has gone super weird. I can't rinse whatever it is out. It's very confusing.
The bride had a big breakfast with family and the best man the morning after. I wasn't invited. This really hurt my feelings and I'm not sure if I'm over reacting. Some people who were invited were not related or in the wedding party. I assume it was because I had other people to eat with but it would have been nice to have been recognised as art of the team considering how much I did.
In non wedding news, I got a court summons! Apparently I haven't been paying my council tax which err I have. More than £500! Not overly pleased. But it will be resolved.2 -
I have slept on it (again) and I have decided that I have been over reacting. I'm just happy that it is all over!
However my next friend is getting married in less than a year and we are dress shopping soon ha!
Still need to call the council though.5 -
Long time! I'm a much happier bunny today. I still need to sort loads out but I feel like I have a plan.
Firstly, with regards to my uncles house and its contents I am going to acquire some large boxes which will be labelled things like glassware, toys, things grandad nicked during ww2, etc. Because at the moment I'm just moving things, dusting them off and moving them back. The majority of the easy throws are gone. Once I have things sorted then the siblings and cousins can have a root through. I believe that both mum and other uncle have chosen their things now.
Secondly, I'm going to invite some friends around for a games night and that will inspire me to get to scraping the skirting boards.
Third, I think I'm going to look for a new job because this one is taking the Micky.
My credit card is eye wateringly high, this is due to the wedding, mums birthday and the council tax. Must. Do. Better.
In other news I went to a new (to me) charity shop which was a bit mental in its pricing. A small IKEA bookcase (obviously worn) for £15! But then there is a beautiful red wood sideboard for £40. Also went to the carboot and only bought things for refinishing furniture and no little other things. Both proud and pleased! I got a clamp for £4, a box clamp for 50p, sandpaper for 50p, some handles for £2 and different handles for 50p. Well, I also gave away an extra 10p somewhere because I couldn't find the exact change and they seemed like super lovely people.
I have managed to ruin some of my clothes. Which is a shame but I suppose the clothes need to thinned out regardless!
Right, back to work. Need to get something done otherwise the week ahead will be miserable. Short term pain for long term gain!5 -
Just read your journal so popped in to say. I am looking to buy next year and I am very impressed with all your DIY. I am definitely coming to the conclusion I need to go to do a general course in September.
Hope your work situation improves
Your uncle sounded like a wonderful man, sorry to hear about his loss. I have a great uncle that has been gone for decades now but I still think of him with great warmth.
Would love to see a pic of your red sofa bed, it sounds amazing - so my taste!!DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

@LadyWithAPlan hi there! Thank you! I think a course is a really good idea but also there is a book called the Collins complete DIY manual which is brilliant and covers everything. You can get them second hand from Amazon, once I bought my copy my mum got super excited and SHE HAS THE SAME BOOK FROM THE EIGHTIES! A lot is the same but some updates.
@Moneyfordreams the shops are very strangely pricing. I did however find some decent deals, a virtually new Radley bag for £10, a pair of hotter trainers for £8 and a brand new with tags cotton traders pair of shoes for £11. Any success on your part?
Finally looked at my net worth for the month (6 weeks). Ouch. Wedding overall costs of around £700, the council tax of £900ish and then buying clothes to replace the ones that I managed to ruin. The investments are doing well but I need to cut the wasteful spending.
Been feeling a bit poorly, so not much progress. Managed to do some sorting in my uncles house, I have acquired storage boxes (they are really expensive!) and am listing the items on the top. Fingers crossed this will push things forward.3 -
@killerpeaty this book sounds great. I always worry about losing a finger with drills so..DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)

@LadyWithAPlan you can get work gloves for a couple of quid, they make DIY so much less painful and gives you a bit of confidence. I've now played with jigsaws and kind of lust after a circular saw. So total turn around for me! You might be the same!3

Watching shop well for less. I'm feeling like the presenters don't take on board that this couple appears to have their passion and hobby is their flat. So putting in ugly sofas is unrealistic!
Having a poorly time so spending has gone mad. Bought mum a pair of trainers from the charity shop for £6 she's delighted and I spent an hour not thinking about how much my stomach hurts. I feel like win win! I have also got a sistma box (50p), a bag of food bag clip things (50p) and nearly bought a Christmas tree storage thing. This is over the week, at lunch time.3
