Happy birthday to you!!
My week of DIY is off to a slow start, by which I mean I haven't looked at it let alone actually done anything. I have cleaned though, that's good right?4 -
My cat is not amused with me. Not one bit. I just gave him a bath with his medicated wash, I can't remember if I mentioned it (and clearly I can't read) but he got a fungal infection. He's good as gold, doesn't scratch or hiss or anything. Just gives me a disappointed look and it breaks my heart every single time. Currently he is making sure that I know how disappointed in me he is by carefully looking over at me every few minutes from his hidey hole.
I actually did some sanding today. Turns out that it takes forever and is very boring. Who would have thought?!3 -

My mask has like a yellow beak so I'm the sexiest sander of all time.4 -
So sanding is taking a long time! I have also managed to sand through a few layers of skin, which I can't say I recommend!
I think I know why the first attempt at the skirting boards failed so badly. It would appear that there were multiple layers of paint which I think were gloss and then emulsion which were both white which is why I didn't notice before. When I attempted to paint it grey, it was far more obvious when the paint was flaking off.
So I went to a diy shop today to get more sandpaper (so I can get through more skin) and gloves (to combat this) and found that they have gotten rid of the clearance section! It is my favourite section! Needless to say, I pouted (not that you could tell through the mask) and went on a hunt. They are hiding the clearance throughout the store which is approx a million miles square! But I feel like I won because I got myself some paint (for a furniture project) on clearance for £5 but it rang up on the register as £25! Quickly resolved but nearly had kittens.
Yesterday I got a call from my sister while in the middle at swearing at my door frame, her friend has sent her a birthday present and was panicking that it left outside the house. I left the flat covered head to toe in dust thinking I just need to take the box into the house and no one will see me, as soon as I left my flat I met a neighbour. Oh dear! The same neighbour who I accidentally burped in front of! What this neighbour must think of me!?
I absolutely do not apologise for the excessive use of exclamation marks!4 -
Don't ask me how, but I managed to nudge the bathroom door so that the latch was stuck shut by sanding the door frame. Sanding!
It turns out that the screwdrivers my sister bought me are possibly the most useful things ever.
Also the gloves work! My fingers are not sanded through. Woot woot, party over here!4 -
You really need to get back to work for a rest and to remove you from society 🤣🤣🤣Mortgage start: £65,495 (March 2016)

I completely agree with you! Absolutely cannot be trusted with anything- door handles, feeding myself, sanding fingers.
I have completed my game, I have probably 100 hours of gameplay on it and now I have the void. You know, the void you get when you finish an amazing book and suddenly you don't know how to exist without the story anymore. This is overly dramatic and completely accurate.
Good news! I got my sander for my birthday and now I'm going to go mad with the power. thunder5 -
I haven't used my sander yet, I've been napping instead.
I did however pick up the dressing table from marketplace and it is really high quality and beautiful. I think there's some evidence of wood worm however so I will treat it before bringing it into the flat. It looks a bit like:
But with a skirt instead of feet, a different colour and different handles. But I couldn't find a closer match online. I brought mum's magic screwdriver just in case but I needed it! 40 minutes sitting in a random person's driveway and I finally got the mirror support off and the thing sat happily in the car. I'm planning on converting it to two bedside tables and use the mirror separately. It's a lovely piece of furniture and I want it to live a happy life as a slightly converted piece. It will take ages but I like the idea of rescuing a piece of quality that is generally disused now, a bit like how people are converting TV cabinets into drinks bars.
Back to work tomorrow, could really use another week off!5 -
