This is my posting to watchdog.... Lets get up a head of steam on this one....

Setanta offered a 2 months trial for £1 at the end of November. Soon after the £1 was debited from my Bank Account. Was required to give 30 days notice which just happened to be new years eve!! When called I was offered the months of February, March and April for £5 per month and decided to accept. At the end of January a direct debit came out of my bank account for £9.99. Called setanta to ask for an explanation and they claimed to have no record of my call on new years eve but that I had called them in mid January to continue my service. I never had any such call. The customer service representative appologised and explained that they needed a copy of the phone bill, a copy of my bank statement, a copy of my contract and that within 28 days I MIGHT get a refund. I told them to forget it and cancelled there and then. I also cancelled my direct debit with my bank immediately. Setanta are a set of rogues and need bringing to justice in a public and humiliating way. There are a number of bulletin boards that have some very strong views over setantas underhand tactics.

Have to agree with glastowinebar, Haythb maybe you should have read the rest of the thread before commenting - indeed we did read the T&Cs and were within our right to cancel this deal between the 26th Dec and 15th Jan (it was specifically stated in the Ts&Cs for this offer). Being told by their call centre that we have to give 30 days notice was wrong and only after 'talking to a supervisor' was I allowed to cancel. Thereafter Setanta still TWICE tried to take money from my account.

No one is suggesting they take their frustration out on call centre staff, but at the end of the day, they are paid to handle these situations and deal with the public, if Setanta were a bit more honest and didnt seem to use such underhand tactics, then maybe their call centre staff would have an easier ride. Whose to blame?

PS...I hit the thanks button instead of the quote button
Ive done that before, annoying isnt it! :D
  • Another name to add to the list. I cancelled on the 14 Jan yet Setanta are now claiming that it was in fact the 17th which is totally incorrect (at the time of cancellation, I was chatting to a mate on Messenger about the cancellation process - the logs show it was definitely the 14th).

So now, having wasted a load of time on the phone, I have to waste even more time writing a letter to claim back £9.99.

I find it incredible that a company like Setanta can do this to so many people. The bad publicity and word-of-mouth that this has generated must be so counter-productive - who would sign up having heard about their dodgy business practices for a quick buck?

well it was the 30 January that Setanta said I could have my £9.99 back...but it would take 28 days to reach my account (robbin' bandits)

should we open a book on whether the money will go into my account?

My bet is another phone call to a robotic call handler will be needed...sigh
I bet 9.99 you dont get it!! (but hope you do!)

Same here, I've told everyone I know whats been going on - Im just pleased I listened to the warnings when the offer came out - otherwise I'd have put it on CC rather than by DD and ended up with even more grief.

Like many others on here me and my dad both signed up when the £1 offer was on stupidly using a credit card. Although we both canceled in time we were both charged 9.99 whihc in the end they decided to refund 6 weeks on and still no joy! Can anyone tell me wether they've sucsesfully had a refund from these robbing bu88ers?!
