Hmm, well after cancelling my account, it looks like the fun may be begining - received a letter today (14th Jan) from them 'welcoming me to Setanta'! Its dated the 3rd Jan, its almost identical to my original welcome letter from November, this time though stating a DD 1st payment of £1 will be made on 10 Dec 07 (how odd, over a month ago!) and then £9.99 on the 24th of every month.
I have a horrible feeling that they are trying to set me up another account or payment at least - thing is I dont want to ring their 08712 rip off number and be kept on hold for ages to try and find out.
Ive checked my bank account and no further DD has been set up but Im wondering if they will try to and take immediate payment. Im assuming that they cant without your permission but thats just it, an assumption.
Wondering if I can call Barclays and ask them to make sure Setanta cannot set up another DD.0 -
exact same has happened to me with the two same letters... so i rang them up as just days before i got my 2nd letter i agreed to go on the £5 a month for 3 months deal. the advisor told me to ignore that letter if i had already agreed the fiver a month subscription. but i had previusoly cancelled my DD with my bank and was told that someone would ring me again to reset it up when i took up fiver deal. i mentioned this to him and said not to worry about that!!!
it appears that Setanta have or will reset up the DD without contacting me. I have not checked with bank if DD has been reset up. will have to investigate.0 -
Oh yes forgot to mention, a guy from Setanta rang me up about 4 days ago (before I got the letter) asking if I was sure I wanted to cancel. I said yes. He then said (and I know this is going to sound strange!) did I know that as my DD was cancelled, when it gets to the 24th, my account "could be automatically closed", so did I want to set the DD back up to stop it from closing it.
!!!!!!?! I of course said I didnt. He said ok. I immediately panicked and thought this was going to be used as some excuse to reactivate my DD/account, saying they had agreement over the phone or something, so before he hung up I made sure and asked, the DD definitely wont be reinstated, he said "no, not unless you want it to". Umm, cant believe all this grief. Methinks its not the end - but hoping it is.0 -
Similar here...Cancelled by email, letter and tried by phone but was on hold too long and I hung up.
Emails back from them say you cant cancel by email.....just as well I wrote as well!
I can't decide if these people are the most incompetent set of tw*ts ever to meet under one roof or the best trained group of scammers on the planet!:mad:0 -
Setanta cannot set up a direct debit payments without authorization from you simple as . If you have cancelled the DD then they have no right to acces your funds , in effect if you wanted to restart payments to them then you would need to give your permission. Dont be fooled by them and take the persons name who is trying to con you in giving authorisation im sure trading standards will want to hear of these issues.0

Suprise suprise, I get home today to find a 'we cant get payment from your bank' letter, in spite of me cancelling on the 3rd over the phone. Hmm, fully expect them to try and get their £9.99 or whatever it is - will be calling them in the morning, should be interesting!
Edit - just rang them on their 08700 50 69 80 number as couldnt get anyone on their landlines - got through to a very polite and apologetic Graeme who said to ignore the letter and he didnt know why it was sent to me. Hmm - will this finally be the end?!0
