Yea I wasn't aiming it at anyone specifically, but there was been reports in the media and on social media of people paying thousands already for holidays not until next year

Pay the deposit then pay the final balance 8/12 week before is always best I feel

Well yes, clearly in every case it wouldn't work, but lets say your holiday was in June, why give them anything other than the initial deposit before the balance due date?

People were even paying monthly Direct Debits, why not just keep that money aside and pay it all at the end?

    Rightpath response

    Claim Status: AWAITING REVIEW*

Correspondence (from the customer or a third party) has been received on 09 October 2019 and the Claim is waiting to be looked at by an assessor.

We aim to look at all post within 60 days. The Claim has been open for 37 full working days :mad:and so we hope to provide a response within the next 23 working days.*

This is the response I have from Rightpath website part of CAA received on 30th November - I submitted my claim on 09th October.

    Hi
I've got the same response on my tracker from the 7th October. The response says 60 working days on mine and the claim has been open for 40 days. 60 WORKING days from the 7th October is 27th December. I'm worried to see people posting they are starting to be asked for details on their claim (something we could have all done on the 1st day of claiming but there wasn't anyway of sending any backup info.) and the clock has been put back to 60 days again! So could this go on until March 2020?

Take what that checker says with a pinch of salt I think. Its good to make sure they have your claim, but that's it really

I saw someone on Twitter post it. Will keep updating as I get more info. The last email I got from Protect Claims say they have got my documents and expect to hear within 28 days. Technically I should be refunded Friday

That is interesting. This is the first example I have come across of someone being refunded when they have paid a 3rd party.
Are you able to provide more details at all? I don't mean personal details, just basic details of how the flights were booked and the response from Tesco ? Ie, why they decided a refund was warranted when other companies are refusing refunds .
I booked by debit card not credit card but that should not make any difference. I have been told I would not be entitled to a refund even if I had paid by credit card , it is the fact I paid a 3rd party not what card I used that is the problem.
The only details I have is that my friend booked the same flights as me. Newcastle to Tenerife on 15th October and returning 29th October. She booked on her Tesco credit card for herself and 2 others in our party. She used Skyscanner and it brought GoToGate up and she booked with them. She was asked for invoices from GoToGate for the flights and from Thomas Cook for seats and luggage. She sent those in and was refunded the whole amount 2 weeks later. I think Tesco either maybe don't know what they're doing, or they did it as a good will gesture (highly unlikely).

I never get why anyone would pay in full until they have to. Better the money being in your account earning abit of interest than theres

BobbleBob, I get a discount from my companys reward website which means I can get 7.5% off a gift voucher, so on the £6500 holiday it works out at just about £500 compared to the £100 I would earn on interest.... now not looking so clever :(

Well to be fair thats a pretty unique situation i imagine few people will have the fortune to be in.

CAA confirmed the timeframe on emails received from ProtectClaims is based on their usual turnaround times, but doesnt apply to the Thomas Cook claims. Still claiming all will be paid this Friday for people who applied straight away
