Lost a lb. Which I am happy about, honestly. It just feels painfully slow. I put on a lb last week, so I’m back to where I was two weeks ago.
But it’s 5lb in 4 weeks which is better than if I didn’t try.
And I must admit, I am liking the “diet.” I’m eating healthier, I’m drinking less and I’m not going hungry, so can’t really complain!
I think I have to take some bits of the diet and do my best. As in cooking stuff, not think everything has to be made from scratch and pick and choose.
Like making pizza bases and toppings, I simply found this too much faff. But the chicken curries and quiches were fine. And last night I made Cajun dirty rice which although I was on the fence about it as I don’t really eat pork mince, DD1 loved it!
But I can’t see myself cooking spag bol from scratch and the girls like the jars, so for 2syns a portion, I will just eat it. The same with Dolmio stir ins etc.
Maman: which chicken was coming up as free from the CoOp? Not the kievs surely, but I can live in hope!
I have some fromage frais left over from a recipe and some 0% greek yogurt. Don’t really want them to go to waste, so has anyone got any tips for what I could use them in? I think I made tikka masala from one and the pizza base from the other.
Also bought choc shot from Aldi, but have no clue what to do with it!
And also, how many Babybel Lights can I have to count as an HEA?Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010

Well done on your pound
pollyanna :T
It's 'Mexican inspired half chicken' that came up free. I'm trying it tomorrow.
I think because this is a mse:money: thread it's attracted people who like to cook from scratch. When MrsRyan used to post she had limited kitchen facilities and a disability and I remember she managed with all sorts of ready made foods.
There's the halfway house of using a jar of sauce or you can buy ready meals. There's the Iceland ones or Aldi and Asda have versions or I'm sure there are others.0 -
Hi all.
Pollyanna , well done on your lb! I think one of the advantages of SW is that it can accommodate all sorts of eating patterns and a mix of ready meals and home cooked can be within the plan. I knew someone at the group I briefly went to who said she couldn't cook, didn't have the time to learn and had done the whole thing via ready meals! As lots of ready made foods are loaded with sugar, as long as you keep an eye on the syns it's doable. Don't forget frozen veg too, still speed and easily prepared. I use a lot more frozen veg than I used to, just so we can have a wide variety without wasting fresh veg.
My 'natural' wake up time is somewhere between 8 and 9, (I'm an owl, rarely in bed before midnight) but I can do very early if I have to. Lunch around 1, dinner time is a bone of contention in this house. I'd prefer to eat later with the bonus of stopping evening snacking, OH sets off to work at 6.30am so prefers to eat earlier. In practice it's somewhere between the two.
Today's Menu
B Bran crunch/flakes, berries, 0% yoghurt and a tsp honey (HEB,S,P, 1 syn)
L HM carrot and coriander soup, greek salad with cous cous (S,F, HEA2, More S, cous cous I'll count as 1 syn, it's actually less than that for 1/2 the pack, 1 for olives, olive oil 2)
D Hairy bikers braised steak (P, F, 1syn for cornflour) various veg (S) - swerving the potatoes again today.
Have a good day.0 -
Pollyanna well done on the lb loss. Average of lb a week is what is expected really, although some people do manage to lose much more but don't think it's sustainable.
Can't remember if you go to group but if you do there are articles under "useful features" tab. I've searched Fromage Frais and come up with this
https://group.slimmingworld.co.uk/useful-features/10ww-fromage-frais.aspx
Don't know if the link will work for you but if not let us know and I'll try and copy and paste some of the ideas!

Thanks Joedenise. I wasn't able to get into that link as I am trying to go it alone with SW. Mainly because I can't find a group that suits me. I don't work Wednesdays, but can I find one during school times? My girls are okay at home for short amounts of time, but I don't want to if I don't have to. They'll probably come up with a plan of destruction if they know I am going to be out at the same hour every week!
My plan for today:-
B - Coffee (HEA1), watermelon (s), banana (f)
L - HM Potato and Leek soup (S, F), WM Roll (HEB), 2 x Laughing cow (2/5 HEA2)
Mullerlight - blueberry one. Haven't eaten it yet.
D - Roast chicken (P) (if some skin ends up in my mouth, so be it), roasties (f), Veg (S)
S - Alpen Bar (3.0)
Tea (HEA1)Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010
Mortgages (End 2017) - £180,235.03

There's no reason why you can't take the girls with you as long as you take something quiet for them to do. We've a got a mum of 6 in my group and in the holidays she bring them with her and they sit quietly (most of the time!) doing crafts so it is doable.
You can search on the SW website for times of your local groups if you do want to go.
Here's the ideas in that link:
Fromage frais is a dairy delight that’s fab for Food Optimising. Pick up the fat-free natural variety to make it completely Free, however, low fat is still a great option at only 3 Syns per 100g.
1. Lasagne topping
lasagneCreamy b!chamel sauce can turn a lasagne into a high-Syn choice – using fromage frais instead, along with your Healthy Extra allowance of cheese gives you a tasty topping that keeps the Syns down.
2. Mayonnaise
Make delicious Free sandwich fillings such as prawn mayo, chicken and bacon mayo, or egg mayo. Mix together 6 tbsp fat-free natural fromage frais, 2 tbsp white wine vinegar and 1 level tbsp sweetener. Blend 1 tsp mustard powder with 1 tsp water and stir into the dressing. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper and hey presto, no need to ‘hold the mayo’ anymore! If sealed in an air-tight container and refrigerated, this will keep for up to 5 days.
3. Dips
Perfect for parties – there’s no end of delicious dips that can be created entirely for Free with fromage frais! Adding garlic, herbs, chives or chillies give you a tangy snack that’s just waiting for your vegetable crudit!s.
4. Pasta sauce
For a creamy mushroom pasta sauce, fry mushrooms, garlic and onions using a little low-calorie cooking spray (less than one calorie per spray) until softened. Add a can of chopped tomatoes, and bring to the boil. Once it’s simmering again, gently stir in 1 level tsp sweetener, basil and fromage frais. Perfect with penne or poured over chicken.
5. Creamy mash
Make mash extra creamy by adding fat-free natural fromage frais. To make it extra tasty, add mashed carrots and swede, too.
6. Ice cream
fruit and fromage fraiseMake ice cream by stirring no-added-sugar, fat-free vanilla yogurt (½ Syn per 125g) and fat-free natural fromage frais together, add 1 level tbsp sweetener (if you'd like to add more sweetener, count ½ Syn per tbsp to safeguard your weight loss) and pop in a freezerproof tub. Place in the freezer and lightly whip every 30 minutes or so to break down any ice crystals that are forming. Your ice cream should be ready in a couple of hours.
7. Top topping
Fromage frais goes perfectly with cereal if you don’t want to use your Healthy Extra allowance of milk. It also makes a great accompaniment to fruit salad or strawberries as an alternative to cream.
8. Strawberry and chocolate trifles
The dark chocolate drizzle gives these traditional trifles a decadent twist.
9. Marinade
For a really easy way to flavour chicken, make a spicy marinade using fat-free natural fromage frais and tandoori spice blend.
10. Cappucino pots
These coffee puds are a fantastic 3 Syns per serving and make an excellent dinner party dessert!

Thanks for that Denise . I like the look of the pasta sauce. There must be heaps of things on the website I'm unaware of.:o
Thanks for the spinach tip. DH went off spinach because he had a DVT some years back and the surgery didn't explain that it worked against the blood thinner so they accused him of not taking the pills! He's fine now but he still avoids spinach. He's the same with eggs, hasn't eaten those since Edwina Currie and the salmonella and that was in the dark ages. Other than that he's perfect.0 -
Have to admit I didn't know what was there just that I knew there had been quite a lot of "Useful Features" articles listing 10 ways with X, Y or Z". I remember there was one for jacket potato toppings a while back but that's about it.
I quite like the look of the pasta sauce as well as I love mushroom sauces. In fact the garlic mushrooms I made today was a lovely mushroom sauce and DH has said he'd quite like that next time we have steak!
