Maman was surprised to see that you're having butter beans but have said they're Free. They are actually Protein so you're getting a bit more P than you expected! How do I know I had to look them up as they are in the jerk beef stew I'm making for dinner!

Oh, of course, I think with baked beans changing it threw me. :)

It's difficult pollyanna to know how to approach things with your children. Obviously some of their choices aren't the healthiest. The turkey escalopes are only 36% meat as an example. You probably remember the shock horror when Jamie Oliver found the turkey twizzlers in school meals for much the same reason. That being said, provided they are fit and healthy and getting an overall balanced diet then the extra calories won't matter. I think I'd talk to them about burning calories and energy. They can probably afford to have the extra as they're more physically active than you. So I'd explain to them that any extra calories we don't use get stored as fat which they use up but you don't. HTH. :)

Can I ask what you consider to be refreshments?
Are we just being mean or are they being vultures at expecting free food so they didn't need to feed the family?

    Definitely the latter
But in future when they ask for them, I might have an alternative on my menu. Although when they ask, why aren't you eating what we are eating mummy? And I say, Cos I want to lose weight, then I just don't want them thinking it's "bad" to eat it. So I think for that reason (sound like I am on Dragon's Den, haha), I will suck it up and just eat the syns. But the old me would have had two and then taken any leftovers to work the next day. I won't do that.

When we have our easy meals (shove on a baking tray and shove in the oven) we all have different options for our protein. Hubby has fish fingers, daughter has chicken nuggets and I normally have a seasoned chicken breast if I'm being good.
My daughter is old enough to understand it's for me to lose weight, but if she wasn't I would just say I fancied something different.

  • Thanks for the tips. I do sometimes just tell them I fancy something different, so something to think about I guess.

Maybe I will swerve it in future. No harm in it. They're not babies. We do have days where we all have something different just because it is easy if it is shove it in the oven type things.

Other things on the menu this week are:-

Beef tacos (where I will just avoid the tacos and have rice and salad)

Pizza (where I will have a WW wrap pizza)

Chicken wraps (I can have a wrap and salad, yum)

Sausages, Pasta, Dolmio Stir In (I'm having Heck sausages and if I get around to it, making my own tomato sauce from a SW Sauces book)

Fish Bites, Jacket Pot, beans (I'm having reduced baked salmon which I found in Tesco).

New Recipe (no idea what I'll cook yet, but hoping something SW that I can make that they will like).

EDITED: Gosh, a lot of meals with salad or no not proper veggie. Might just cook some extra with the sausage meal and fish meal.

You could be right about the timing of WI. I always weigh on a Thursday or sometimes Friday so my syns are mostly early in my week.

  • Well I had my Bernard Matthews Turkey Escalope and I don't think I enjoyed it as much as I normally doing knowing how many syns it has. But... I only ate half. And quickly put the other half in the cat's bowl. I don't like wasting food, but I will just avoid it in future. I do like it, but no more than I like a chicken breast for example.

I will count it as 6.5 syns.

Didn't get to eat dinner till a little while ago as was out at a secondary school. No idea how we manage to spend so long looking around classrooms!

Now to have some tea and I'll save an Alpen bar for bedtime and that will be 10 syns for today.

Well done Pollyanna on just eating half. It's amazing that things suddenly don't taste as good as they used to when you know what the Syns for them are! For me it's the batter on fish from the chippy but then I never really ate it all before SW, now I just don't eat it at all

Had to go shopping this morning and ending up spending far more than I intended but did stock up on some fish & fish fingers (for DH!); also got him some more of his favourite lollies which I love but don't usually eat as they are 11 Syns each:eek:. I tend to stick to the mini Vienna's or a twister when I have a lolly for 4 Syns:D.

Ended yesterday of 10 syns which is good as I still have 38 syns left to have today and tomorrow! Using spirits instead of wine definitely helps with saving syns:rotfl:. Had rum and diet Ginger Beer over the weekend on one night and wine on the other.

    Today's plan:

    B - eggs & LO breakfast hash - P, S
L - tuna salad - tuna P; lettuce, tomato, cucumber, spring onions, pickled beetroot, pickled onions - all S
    D - Diet Coke chicken with mash - P, S, F

    HEA - milk in tea
HEB - none planned but may have a couple of Ryvita with Laughing Cow blue cheese triangle
Syns - blue cheese triangle 1.5 (if Ihave it). May actually pinch one of DH's lollies to use up 11 syns; after all I need to use them :rotfl:

Yes, Joedenise, I was quite impressed with myself resisting the other half. The cat was happy.

Because dinner was late and I was tired and had started watched a programme that was entirely inappropriate for an 8 year old when she came down insisting she couldn't sleep, I just decided to go to bed and didn't end up having an Alpen Bar, so all good.

    Plan today:-

    B - Coffee (hea1), watermelon (s), grapes (f)

    S - 2 x boiled eggs (p)

    L - Crustless Quiche (hea2, p, f, s)
    Muller Light (toffee today) (0.5)

    D - mince, spices, rice (p, f, f)
    Salad (s)

    S - Alpen Bars (heb)
    Tea (hea1)

PS Is it possible to eat too many eggs? I had two and then the quiche...
