The Western world as a whole is facing a challenge of an ageing population. With a declining number of people working to support the retired. Money doesn't grow on trees. Though many seem to believe it does.

Boris seems to have found the magic money tree.

I think its rather unfair to those who have paid in the full whack of NI contributions in the UK, moved to retire to France or Spain or the like and then not receive an uprated pension thereafter.

ISTR that UK pensioners in non-EU countries that don't have social security agreements with the UK don't get inflation increases.
If we leave with no-deal then we'd just be treating the EU like the rest of the world

Please read my previous posts so I don't have to explain for the third time that making uprating of pensions for overseas pensioners dependent on "social security agreements" is entirely bogus & merely used as an excuse for the UK government to save £400million.

Fine, the UK Government could operate like France but they do not, they require reciprocal arrangements (rightly or wrongly), as evidenced by the Canada / New Zealand examples.
The UK DOES have social security agreements with Canada and New Zealand but the UK state pension is not uprated if you live in either of those countries. Reciprocal social security agreements are a complete red herring & just used as a fig leaf to hide the rather nasty fact that the UK chooses not to uprate state pensions if the pensioner lives in most foreign countries.

Rather short sighted of the government.

Many will probably choose to permanently hop back over the Channel and place additional strain on the NHS etc.

Unintended consequences once again, rather like the BBC licence fee debacle; Gus O'Donnell has pointed out that many pensioners are currently not claiming the pension credit to which they are entitled, and that the overall cost to the exchequer once they sign up will be greater than if the government had continued to fund licences for the over 75s.

Inflation isn't as high in Europe. Why should UK taxpayers subsidise Expats.
Inflation is higher in the UK because of the sinking 'pound in your pocket'.

Sterling will buy approximately 20% less in other European countries now than it would have done in early 2016, and further significant falls can be expected shortly.

Many do already. Old age catches up with us all.

Though selling ones overseas retirement home. Isn't as easy as one would hope.

Depends where the overseas home is.

'Wealthy French families fleeing London amid concern over a hard Brexit have helped to drive Paris house prices to a record level.'

'Others would like to follow but were being held back by difficulties in selling homes in London.'
